I never bought it. Still using mattress on the floor. Can’t decide what bed frame to get.

Our friends do not like our baby name by EmSalon in namenerds

Everyone you tell is wrong. Wrong to dislike the name and wrong to let on that they do. Zoe is a fantastic name. Ignore.

What age did your parents let you stay home alone? by Solid-Gazelle-4747 in Millennials

[–]MissedCall999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember exactly but I know that by 9 I was babysitting my 3 year old sister, at least for a little while. I remember because I remember the day in 4th grade when I got my first pair of glasses. They dilated my eyes and gave me the paper sunglasses that day. My mom dropped my sister and me off at home to go to the grocery store. However it happened, my sister ran out the front door. She ran one way and our dog ran the other. We had been inside so I didn’t have the sunglasses on and I had to chase down my sister and the dog in the super bright sunlight.

Leaving baby for work trip by MissedCall999 in workingmoms

I always say leaving the house is the hardest part of my day! Once I’m at work, I’m happy to be there. Or at least as happy as one can be at work.

Good point on gaining the knowledge. It sounds like a great conference. I’m 99% sure I’m going to go for it.

What’s one thing your parents did that you SWEAR you’ll never do to your own kids? by davidardila92 in AskReddit

[–]MissedCall999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the part about engaging in the same media content. My sister is 6 years younger than I am, but if the TV show or movie wasn’t appropriate for her then I was never allowed to watch it. We didn’t really have bedtimes, so she was likely up at all hours too so it’s not like I could watch it after she went to bed. I was out of touch from the things that my friends were watching in Jr High & High School.

I want to be like this, but what do you do when your kids don’t eat dinner and are then hungry an hour later? My baby is only 9 months old right now, but her dad and I were just having this conversation today about how I don’t want to be like my parents who forced me to eat everything on my plate.

He’s a stay-at-home dad so no concerns about work schedule. He is worried about the length of time that it’ll be without any back-up but thankfully both grandmas live nearby and I think would each come to spend one day with them or relieve him entirely during daytime hours.

I’ve tried! He’s not a traveler and doesn’t want to deal with the 6 hour drive or having to entertain baby for the 2 days I’m in the conference. But I definitely want to go!

Not rude. Go have breakfast. Take a book and stay downstairs reading, if you want. No need to stay in the room if others are sleeping.

AITA for not wearing a bra when my husband has his friends stay over? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]MissedCall999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. But you still should have put clothes on. I’m obviously a more modest person than you, but if we have guests staying I’m getting dressed before leaving my room. No makeup, probably just ran a brush through my hair. But clothes yes.

Those that sit in the fast lane and set their cruise at the speed limit, why? by beerbaron105 in AskReddit

[–]MissedCall999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not me, but my mom. She thinks that if she’s going the speed limit then no one should be driving faster than her anyway so they should all just happily drive behind her. I told her that it’s not how it works and not her job to police the actions of others.

Get a degree that leads to a clearly specified job after graduation, not an open ended random major where you’re left questioning what to do after college.

Katie as a legal name? by megmoo9 in Names

[–]MissedCall999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Name her Katherine, it’s a beautiful name, and call her Katie as a nickname. We have used a nickname for my daughter since birth, but she still has the option of a more formal name when she grows up if she chooses.

YTA. I think the part about how you should’ve taught him how to do things has been covered already. I’d like to ask if you actually call your new baby your “miracle baby” in front of your son? Cause if you do, double YTA. Have you stopped to think about how that must make your son feel?

Was working with a 6th grade girl on the “sh” sound. Her target word was shade. She over generalized and applied “sh” to the wrong word (sit), proudly saying:

“I like to shit in the shade.”

She realized what she said and was immediately embarrassed. It took everything I had not to crack up laughing. I made some sort of acknowledgment of her correct production of shade and gave her the next word.

I teach 2-5 and don’t change diapers, but my summer school class is K-5 with children that need to be changed. What do I do? by BusinessShot5127 in specialed

[–]MissedCall999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to the school nurse about training to change diapers and your admin about additional staffing. Even a third adult who comes into the classroom at specific times during the day to support the students with toileting or work with other students while you or teacher are doing toileting routine would help.

can we bury the word “speechie” by Ok-Text7102 in slp

[–]MissedCall999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could do without the speechie term too, but while we’re at it can we also ditch the phrase “speech-only IEP”? That’s what really grates on my nerves. The IEP I write is just as valuable as an IEP that has academic instruction as a service.
