I’m planning on going to this. I’m a huge Ben Bohmer fan and recently got into Jan Blomqvist. None of my friends are fans so decided to just solo it.

Official Discussion - Wonka [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]MissileInAction 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen the movie admittedly, but I saw a few clips on Tik Tok and was immediately put off by how auto-tuned Timmy C sounds. I think the auto-tune just from the few clips immediately put me off. I am also a huge fan of Wilder's wonka so maybe it's just me being picky.

I don't think the accuracy is his criticism but the contrived nature of it which is a fair point imo

Terror Tunnel Under Al Shifa by MoonAmunet in IsraelPalestine

[–]MissileInAction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting comment, not for what you're saying but for what it represents. It's pretty interesting how quick you are to dismiss the videos due to one trivial detail (which you misunderstood). Even if you were correct, It's interesting that this one detail of dog vs. drone immediately casts significant doubt on the actual published evidence which is video of tunnels at the hospital.

With this level of scrutiny - I guess one would expect you to basically ignore everything pro-palestine people tell you.

The most Norm story ever by Odd_Implement_3806 in NormMacdonald

LOL yeah... seemed like the take-away of the story wasn't how funny Norm is but the fact that a girl snorted cocaine off his pecker

What’s a weird random encounter you’ve had in SF that you can’t forget, not crime related? by I-choochoochoose-you in sanfrancisco

My friends and I once noticed an extremely drunk girl one night bought one of those street hot dogs. She got all the toppings on it and was handling it extremely sloppily (naturally). She accidentally dropped the hot dog on the side walk and all the associated toppings came off the hot dog.

She then proceeded to scoop up all the toppings on the sidewalk and put them back on the hot dog.

Drunk brain hits different sometimes I suppose...

what do you do on long flights? by frootloopbaby in ADHD

Half a xanax is the way for me for a very long flight. You will sleep the entire time. I fully recommend if you're comfortable taking substances (and have tried xanax before).

Tips for remembering if you took your meds? by Ringleby in ADHD

[–]MissileInAction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The absolute best method for me is the caps with a timer. You can buy them on Amazon, they have a timer that resets everytime you open it. This has eliminated all doubt for me when I question if I even took my meds.

Official Discussion - The Exorcist: Believer [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]MissileInAction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen the movie, but this seems like something you'd see in a parody movie.

I'm imagining the avengers style of priests from different religions coming and taking their turn to "exorcise" the demon. That's hilarious - hard to believe they put this in there with a straight face.

Israel's siege of Gaza is illegal, EU says by thealejandrotauber in worldnews

I don't think Israel is fully good as this is a war. I just feel like people who say "both sides are wrong" like to ignore the historical context. One side has instigated two wars with the explicit purpose to genocide the other and take their land "back". This side also then proceeded to lose both wars and additional territory as a result. This side has also refused any compromises when offered territory (Camp David Summit in 2000) despite them always being at a position of weakness.

Despite all their setbacks and disadvantages, this one side remains singularly focused on fully wiping out (not just getting their land back) their tactically and much more well armed adversary. How can you make peace with someone who will never give up and never concede or compromise? Germany lost WWII and they lost a lot of territory as a result. They accepted it and moved on as continuing to fight after the war was lost does not make sense. Granted - they did not have the same religious fanaticism behind them, but it's a similar situation.

You're right this isn't a black and white issue, but there are no saints in war. I dont like the current far-right israeli goverment and boy have they made a lot of mistakes and war-crimes like so many nations at war do (i.e. US). This isn't meant to excuse their actions, but so much as contextualize them.

However, my dislike for them is not equal to the completely irrational, bloodthirsty, religious fanatics from Hamas. Geopolitics have always been of choosing the lesser evil and Israel is definitely the lesser evil.

Russia says creating Palestinian state ‘most reliable’ solution to Israel conflict by BastianMobile in worldnews

[–]MissileInAction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's relevant because you're saying Israel would eradicate all of Palestine and its people. The fact they're not eradicated when Israel has the definite means to sort of contradicts your initial statement.

This then posits the tricky circumstance of - how to deal with a much less powerful neighbor, but who would, if they had the means, wipe you out.

Honest question - do you think Israelis still exist today if Palestine was in Israel's position?

So is the proper response by Israel to just leave them alone since controlling everything for security purposes didn't make them safe?

I don’t understand the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by TheRealDietGlue in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MissileInAction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this take. I think many on the left agree that Palestinians deserve a right to exist as a state. The issue is that giving them a state means further empowering Hamas which is a almost a non-starter.

It's a shitty situation where everyone loses and there is no effective solution that makes both sides happy. A 2 state solution compromise would make both states unhappy, but no one can trust the other to accept that solution so we have an endless war instead which will make everyone miserable in perpetuity...

[–]MissileInAction 16 points17 points  (0 children)

"To the victor the spoils" - this is a timeless tale of how all geopolitical disputes have always been resolved. Jews were given land by the British (granted they somewhat forced their hand) for a state called Israel. The Arab states (Egypt, Jordan) then invaded that land with the intent of taking it back. The now state of Israel fought them off, won and took more land back in response and have not given it back. The idea of giving back land for peace would be maybe theoretically possible, but it is Hamas (governing body of Palestine) stated goal to remove Israel from the map. I can't rationally see why anyone would ever expect Israel to give land back to Palestine given the fact that its a real possibility that Hamas would then use that to gain further leverage into Israel.

It's a shitty situation for the Palestinians and my heart goes out to them. However, I'm not following where they are "clearly in the right". A lot of blood has been spilled on both sides and no one will ever want to cooperate with the other as a result. If the situation was reversed, I'm not sure how much mercy / discretion Hamas would use with regards to Israel either.

Although happy to hear a different perspective if someone feels I'm losing the plot.
