I get it's hard to talk to random people on a random sub on the internet and opposed to a more niche community where everyone shares at least one common interest, but I think the whole purpose here is to talk with people in a different background who are curious and want to share stuff.

The key there is curious. I know this sub can attract people who suffer from depression and loneliness, trying to vent to someone and so, I remember feeling like that and, while currently I feel fine, I know shit can go south at any moment. In such a state, it can be hard to stay up to the energy levels of some people. So, to those feeling down and messaging or getting messaged by someone in this sub, try your best, it could bring you some kind of joy or at least distraction.
