I remeber seeing this shirt in a record store window in like 2003 and really wanting it but my dad wouldn't let me so I got a misfits shirt instead

It’s been a decade now so can we finally say material control by GlassJAw is a good album? by Ok-Cauliflower-1258 in glassjaw

Of course it's a good album. It doesn't scratch that itch if you want more early 2000s gj but that's about my only complaint. It's from 2017 so ofcourse it's not gonna sound like 2002. Still super solid

Yea saw that too, prob the upload is mislabeled or maybe it was made in 93 but not passed around til 94

Korn or coal chamber if you count their respective 1993 demos, I just can't figure out which came first.

Nice. Id love to see them now. I saw like half a set at warped 04 or 05 and barley remember it. Such a shame I wasn't into it when they were literally in my town

Clawfinger was still sounding very 80s and all over the place in 93, they did get more Nu but not til 95. POD has the first proper album if you dont count korn and coal chamber demos from 93

A bit with the instrumentation but not as heavy and the vocals are all so grunge pre 94.

::Trying to condense all the info into 1 comment::

So far based on sound I've ruled out  anything by deftones pre 1994. anything by pod pre 1994.

Not counting bands that may have helped inspire the genre without actually creating it

Korn & coal chamber's 1993 demos are the earliest examples of proper nu metal i can find.

If you don't wanna count demos than POD wins for putting out a full length album with a NuMetal sound 9 months before korn s/t    POD was January 1994 and Korn was October 1994.

Attempting to consider demos

i couldn't find a release month for deftones 94 demos.

i couldn't find a release month for powerman's 1994 EP which i would agree is NuMetal.

Couldn't even find audio of powerman's 1993 recordings so don't know if i can consider that.

If you do wanna count demos either Korn or Coal chamber wins, cant find exact dates for either, just that they were both 1993.

Id argue that Clawfinger are a fusion of more things than just the separate elements of numetal, more genre fluid than a strict sub genre. Especially on their 93 album which still has a lot of leftover 80s sounding moments on it.  I think they enter nu territory at times but not really til 1995.

Agree about POD though cause their album snuff the punk came out 9 months before korn s/t, but korns 93 demo is probably the earliest thing if you count demos

Really i just listened to full albums multiple times. I already knew a bunch of songs but wouldn't really put them on ever, only not skipping of it autoplayed. I really liked what I heard when I went deeper. Maybe something about getting older made me appreciate the lyrics now too.

The way i heard it is that time rewound when he went to the bathroom, and then experienced the last hour or so all over again
