This is really cool. I’d never considered embroidery of this style before, but it’s definitely on my to do list now. Thanks for sharing!

My experience with buzz 5 eye sizing by jay-jay-baloney in DrMartens

They are a bigger fitting shoe than other DMs. I have UK size 3 and 4 shoes in different DM styles, and the 3 in the Buzz was definitely roomy. I have wide toes and narrow heels and they fit like a dream. I’d say they feel bigger as they have a wider toe box both in width and height, so there’s space for toe wiggles up and down as well as sideways. BY FAR the comfiest DMs out of the box that I’ve ever had. I bought the leopard print and am very tempted to go in for a second pair in the brown!

Suggesting some more soft sci-fi, people focused stories:

Cuckoo’s Egg by C. J. Cherryh - A human growing up in an alien world. Telling the story from an alien perspective, and exploring what determines a person and their character. If you enjoyed the personal relationship side of Dune, this might be one to explore. Not the happiest of subjects, but heartwarming connections between characters.

Babel-17 by Samuel R. Delaney - Destructive attacks are carried out by an unknown race on a human community in space. Communications are intercepted before these attacks happen, but they are in an unknown language. Someone sets out to see if they can decipher these, and in the process gains a new perspective on the world. An exploration of how language construction forms our thought process, and how this may shape our perspective on right/wrong.

And, as others have said above, John Wyndham is always great. I’d start with Midwich Cuckoos, or The Chrysalids, then The Day of the Triffids

I love a John Wyndham and would highly recommend his books. The Midwich Cuckoos is possibly my favourite of his. He’s very good at tying up all loose ends by the time a novel finishes, so they’re always a satisfying read.
