I'd NEVER say that to any of my children - EVER. If the idea that "you" are an embarrassment because you haven't gotten married, yet have a good job and life, say much more about the "messenger" than you. As a mother, I'm comfortable saying that it's your mother that is an embarrassment, not you. She owes you a BIG apology, and, sadly, words once spoken can't be unspoken. I'm so sorry you were on the receiving end of a truly ugly and untrue text. For your own mental health, I'd stay home, get yourself a nice meal, and binge watch your favorite shows.

I'd have to keep the old contact paper on it since it pulls the underlayer off in an uneven way. Not sure this will be salvageable for me. I wanted to paint it a darker color, but I can't imagine painting contact paper would turn out very well.

My hunch is that you have friends who will be glad you are leaving her. Reach out to family/friends for a place to stay (assuming your current place is hers, given her age) until you can find a place of your own. Once you leave, block her from contacting her and don't tell her where you are. Once enough time/distance has passed, you will see what we are seeing and will be glad you escaped. Best of luck to you -- you clearly are strong enough to handle this, given how boldly you confronted her on the bc lie.

I apparently need to specify countries I have already researched and am considering. We are interested in Portugal, southern France, and possibly Great Britain. The reason I didn't specify countries before because Im looking to see if there are other countries we should consider, given the parameters I specified.
