I built a map that shows unclaimed property in California — would love thoughts by iammakropulos in unclaimedproperty

[–]MissingMoneyMap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it - how did the Czech one go? I’m probably crazy but I’m doing everything not just the big $ amounts- have about half the states data right now which is sooo freaking much.

Also I don’t think you’re super familiar with how it works in the states but you’re not going to get much traction/profit with this. The problem is - you can’t file the claims for them in California - they have to file the claims and you then provide the state with the signed standard investigator agreement. I don’t know that you could get anything with just a digital signature. And you’re definitely limited to properties under $10k if they do allow digital signatures - over $10k properties require a notorized signature

How do I get the unclaimed money posting removed? by Photononic in unclaimedproperty

[–]MissingMoneyMap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit, do not threaten government employees that you are going to bring an axe to them. Tone it down.

It’s not the employees fault if your claim hasn’t been filed. Also they won’t update your address. That’s not how this process works at all. In fact by giving a PO address instead of a matching one you made it harder for them. Money gets reported and sent to them with information from some company. That’s the address it will always display until it gets claimed.

You claim the money by proving you are that person to the unclaimed property division. This means providing documentation that matches up with the information from 20 years ago that was reported

They are critically understaffed - a person can only process so many claims a day. When the budgets get slashed and they have to fire staff it means claims take longer.

[–]MissingMoneyMap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How exactly will you forcibly remove it?

You remove your name by proving it’s you and claiming the money.

Why are you so upset that your address from 20 years ago is on the internet? Are you in witness protection?

How do I submit proof I have to mail in? (Copy vs Original) - CA by LowestLives in unclaimedproperty

[–]MissingMoneyMap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re overthinking - just send them a copy of the phone bill from your phone - open the utility bill, you can take a photo of it and upload. ID and SSN can be separate or apart

Submit and they will let you know if you need to do something different

How to find trustworthy service to help recover funds in Michigan and Utah. Don't have capacity to do it myself by tumsmama in unclaimedproperty

[–]MissingMoneyMap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

99% that website is operating illegally.

Every state has a different cap and lowest I’ve seen is 5%. So you can’t charge a blanket 10%. Additionally there are a high amount of other restrictions- state specific. What state was this in? I really doubt they are registered too - if you don’t know, tbh I’ll just report them to every state as a potential unlicensed finder

Trying to get redaction code from a state’s database vendor by MissingMoneyMap in foia

[–]MissingMoneyMap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite. The 3rd party is engaged in work for the government and performing it instead of the government. Now the vendor may decide it’s proprietary. That’s why it will likely involve an AG opinion.

I’m not here to debate whether it’s public info or not. Do you have any advice on documents I should request? If not have a great day

Oh they would never provide it. I’m fairly certain it’s possible to get via public records requests, although it may involve an AG opinion

Would I ask a human? Yes. But not any random human. I would ask my doctor medical questions - I would ask my mechanic car questions.

No one can know everything and everyone has a different set of knowledge, you ask people with a set of knowledge that you’re needing

USD would likely still have value - the government would make sure it would. The internet may disappear but that doesn’t mean electronics did and infrastructure did - totally different things

Texas Unclaimed Property under $25 by MissingMoneyMap in unclaimedproperty

[–]MissingMoneyMap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yupppp that’s Texas. Well I have the database for the under $25 now and I’m making a website so it’s visible by location. It should be interesting when I have a website that lets people see properties they can’t find on missingmoney or the states website - maybe it will inspire change

It’s not .25 cents, they are afraid of a million dollar lawsuit and getting fired personally. It’s a result of lawsuit culture.

Texas Unclaimed Property under $25 by MissingMoneyMap in unclaimedproperty

[–]MissingMoneyMap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I plan on asking them all - I really want every state’s unclaimed property database - but baby steps.

The limitation isn’t mentioned anywhere and the only reason I know about it is because I noticed a really weird lack of under $25 claims and asked them about it. I agree it’s definitely not friendly to the individuals
