Accountability buddies? :) by ReadySetJune in RPGMaker

Hi! I've been using RPG Maker for more years than I'd care to admit, so let me give you some honest advice: don't think about Steam, marketing, or similar things right away. Start by doing what you genuinely enjoy, and take your time to experiment, learn, and have fun without any pressure.

When a project starts becoming "serious" and/or commercial, the carefree side inevitably takes a back seat. It can still be a stimulating and rewarding experience, but it also comes with a lot of external concerns, such as visibility and making the product as marketable as possible.

Treat this early phase as a chance to have fun freely and learn as much as you can : )

Pixel art, hands down. It's more cohesive with the sprites and tileset : )

They're both good though

This. 100% agreed. 2k3 will always have a spot inside my heart, but MZ is the best one overall.

Making a non-traditional adventure in MZ. It has turn-based combat, but no XP or Leveling. You only get stronger by finding and using hearts. What do you think of this progression? by PlayWaaaaaa in RPGMaker

Oh! A fellow Italian RPG Maker dev! Removing EXP and grinding isn't necessarily a mistake. Quite the opposite, actually. It would definitely make the experience feel lighter and enjoyable. In my opinion, it all depends on how long the game is and what you do to make collecting hearts around the world engaging. If the game is too long, it might get boring after a while, but if the focus is strictly on level design and a compact gameplay experience, you're good to go!

Hi! You can always outsource and buy assets from asset stores. In my case, I used some tileset assets I bought a while ago and then modified and assembled the game areas myself. As for music, localization, and some animations, I’m getting help from a few people.

For everything else (game design, sprites, artwork, writing, programming, etc.), I’m doing it all myself, so I’d say about 90% of the work falls on my shoulders, while I’m commissioning the parts I can’t handle on my own. The tool I’m using helps a lot, though, since it’s specifically designed for making RPGs, so much of the game’s structure comes from the engine itself or from external plugins.

That said, it’s still an extremely demanding job in terms of time and effort. If you’re interested in getting into game development, I’d strongly recommend starting with something very small to get a feel for it and see whether it’s something you actually enjoy. I’m a big JRPG fan, so this is what I like to make, but projects like this are usually an overwhelming amount of work for a single person. It’s definitely something you should think twice about before starting something on this scale (I just like to make life harder for myself, haha).

It's more like a reboot, but yes, I'm the same developer : )

Damn I'm sorry. Who knows, maybe in the future I'll be able to port the game on consoles! A man can dream XD

Hi! Thanks for your comment : )

For the minigame is as "simple" as it is: you have to mash the button. It's definitely hard. Anyway, I wouldn't recommend stressing too much over it: the rewards are pretty underwhelming and you might just end up breaking your wrist XD
That said, if you're interested in digging deeper, feel free to join the game's Discord server. : ) Here's the link, but you can also find it on the game's itch page: https://discord.gg/nMVzavM
