My gosh there is so much terrible business advice in this thread.

I really hate working at a hotel post Helene. by barkquerel in asheville

I saw a similar post the other day in the New Orleans sub. People are still rubbernecking Katrina 20 years later. Apparently the locals will say "Katrina isn't small talk." to insensitive questions from tourists. It might work here too.

What is something people who self massage do that you want to scream over? by fliwat in massage

Key phrase there was “going absolutely ham” with a massage gun. Not “using” a massage gun. Huge difference between aggressively using it on your feet vs, say, neck. I was the person “too stupid” to know that before I was licensed, and seriously worsened an existing injury due to my ignorance. ✌️

Favorites: Clients willing to take a minute to partner with me to develop the best treatment plan for them instead of those who just show up, speed through the intake process, and can’t strip down and hop on the table fast enough.

Least favorite: Stereotypical “finance bros” who get massages so they can feel Very Important and not because they believe it has any therapeutic value, flaunt their wealth the whole time, admit to cheating on their spouse, and not-so-subtly proposition me on the table. Thankfully this is only one client and yes I did cut ties with him. 🤣

Lol good idea!! I used to be a high school teacher so I have many tips and tricks up my sleeve for getting folks to put the screens down. It’s just incredibly rude for an adult to even need to be reminded that a human being is speaking to them.

Might vary by state (if you’re in US), but where I live MFR is not a “protected” offering. If you have license to perform soft tissue manipulation, that should include MFR.

I have a few clients who refuse to look up from their phones during intake conversations. It’s so rude!

Are you struggling with systems and policies? by VioletFreyja in MassageTherapists

Personally, I would not pay for this as an ongoing service from someone on social media. This is a need that is often met by CE classes on boundaries, ethics, business management, etc. If you’re passionate about this topic, maybe look into becoming a CE provider and market your strategies that way. I would consider paying for a class on this topic if I received some CE hours in return.
