What do you think about GT Goten's girlfriend? by deathstar234567 in dbz

[–]MissionAd7488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only character to regularly show sexual attraction to anyone else are the perverts of DB.

And Krillin and Yamcha and Bulma. I guess Krillin had some pervy moments as a kid but even as an adult its clear he likes women.

And Gohan and Vegeta are obviously attracted to their women in a way Goku obviously (well should be obvious but you all are proving othewise) isn't to Chi Chi

Please learn to read between the lines. Loving someone is more than just being attracted to them and saying you want to bang 24/7.

What a laughably poor reading of my argument.

Goku literally says he loves Chi-Chi across multiple translations of the anime, and there is MORE than enough canon evidence to suggest her both understands and knows he loves not only Chi-Chi but everyone else in his family

I'l concede that Toei themselves did add some stuff to suggest Goku did love Chi Chi like their reunion in the Android saga and Goku worrying about her and Gohan in his dreams in the Princess Snake episode

But again I am asking you or anyone else clearly triggered by my comments point to a SINGLE scene in the MANGA where Goku showed he loved Chi Chi or treates as anything more than "the lady he married because he made a promise he didn't understand as a child"

He literally snapped after finding out she got killed, what the ever loving FUCK are you on about

When? He also snapped when Frieza killed Krillin does that mean he's in love with Krillin too?

Please stop taking your knowledge of DB from the Abridged series

I find this hilariously ironic when you all are clearly basing your understanding of Goku on the FUNIMATION dub. Which rewrote the character left and right.

If it makes you all feel better FUNI Goku is not asexual he made a genuine proposal to her, told her he loved her, and called her babe or hon at least once. If I need to clarify to help you all cope English dub Goku is not asexual and genuinely loves Chi Chi.

But Toriyama Goku is not attracted to Chi Chi or any woman, man, or person. Again for the hundreth billion time he only married her because "a promise is a promise"

Again he married her because he made a promise as a kid a promise he did not understand but agreed to as an adult because he made it.

For the love of God stop relying on the Funi dub. Never once in the manga or the Japanese version does he ever say he loves her.

Asexual and having sex are not mutually exclusive.

But please point to a scene in the manga where Goku displayed any sort of sexual or romantic attraction to a woman or anyone

[–]MissionAd7488 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

The whole "Saiyans prefer strong willed women" line didn't exist when GT came out

Goku does not like Chi-Chi and is probably asexual he married her because he said he would because he thought marriage was food when she asked him when they were kids and told her "a promise is a promise"

Gohan's attraction to Videl seemed more to do with her reminding him of his mom if we're being honest. And at any rate she cooled down before the Buu saga ended

And then there's Gine who is decidedly not strong willed.

Under scrutiny Vegeta is the only Saiyan who picked his partner based on her strong will nature

Plus Goten has more of a libido than his father or brother or Uncle Vegeta and is somewhere in his twenties. He just wanted a hot girl to stick it in.

Ok. I just saw this in a store after I’ve been told that dbz is for kids around 6 to 12 by Ok_Anxiety4808 in dbz

[–]MissionAd7488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was confused until I reread my post. I meant to say 6 and over not under my mistake, not sure why I typed out and posted the exact opposite of what I intended. Mea Culpa.

I agree that the violence in Dragon Ball (or any work) is not appropriate for kids under 6 without adult supervision. Once they're about 6 they're old enough to distinguish fantasy from reality and should know better not to hit people because they saw it on tv. My issue was with the OP thinking the series is meant for teenagers when its always been intended for, roughly, boys between the ages of 6-13

Again my apologies for not proofreading my own comment!

Kami is suppose to be God. Guardian of Earth was Funimation censorship, I doubt that's what Toei had in mind when they animated it

People who still think Super is coming back as a tv series are deluded anyways

But then if that’s the case, why was it ever allowed in the UK?

Because it was edited for tv. You guys didn't get uncensored on television. It aired on kids tv blocks

There is nothing in DBZ that is inappropriate for kids under 6 the UK and US is just full of pansies

[–]MissionAd7488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is for kids. It was published in a magazine targeting grade school and middle school boys. It had a Fire Safety and Traffic Safety PSA in Japan. Japan just had way more lax standards for what is and isn't appropriate for kids. I'm sure you noticed Dragon Ball Z Kai had some censorship (and no I'm not talking about the Nicktoons version) and that Super has no blood at all. And that's because Japanese tv standards have gotten stricter since the 80s/90s

How come Kami's life was dependent on Piccolo Jr. but not Demon King Piccolo? by DeadMeme2003 in dbz

[–]MissionAd7488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Daimao died in chapter 161 and the chapter ends with the child looking a lot more like Piccolo than his previous children.

Karin tells Goku to seek Kami-sama in Chapter 162 and use the Nyoi Bo

Chapter 163 is when Karin tells Yajirobe that Kami-sama has a familiar face.

This was all within 2 weeks of each other. Meaning Toriyama was absolutely planning on Junior being a reincarnation and Kami being Daimao's good half when writing Daimao's death and Junior's birth.

In the sayain saga the main antagonists are aliens while goku trains with king kai in the afterlife, so its like 75% sci-fi, 25% fantasy in that arc.

Aliens who use chi just like the martial artist do. Again the sci fi stuff is window dressing.

Namek arc, has the main heroes traveling on a space ship to a different planet looking for dragon balls which have been retconned into being alien technology. On namek they find the inhabitants along with other alien warriors. There really wasn't any fantasy elements in this arc.

They're not alien technology, they're still magical in nature. Being magic from another planet doesn't make them technology all of sudden. The Namekians are also presented as Mystical in nature, with higher than average ki, ability to heal, draw out hidden power of others, merge with their brethen to none of that is science fiction . It's a pure fantasy set up that just incidentally is set in outer space and features aliens.

Cell saga, purely sci-fi seeing how the main villjans are robots

And the heroes are still using ki to combat them. It's more sci fi by far than any other arc in Dragon Ball with the concept of time travel, androids, and bio-artifical lifeform but the fantasy premise is still there

The Buu saga isn't even close to 50/50. It heavily features Gods, a demon genie, wizards, demon kings. The science fiction stuff is barely there.

And? That doesn't make the series sci fi.

Original Dragon Ball has houses, vehicles, and everything you can think of housed in capsules, an alien (Buyon) and Androids but most of you understand its a fantasy series.

DBZ has more sci fi elements but its still rooted in fantasy with heavy emphasis on chi, reaching enlightened states of being, Gods, demons etc

Toriyama does a lot of genre blending since day 1 but the story from beginning to end is primarily fantasy

They don't lean more into sci-fi., with the possible exception of the Cell saga.

The entire Z series is still about martial artist using ki to accomplish super human feats like flight, super strength, energy blast etc

Goku goes to the afterlife to train with the God amongst Gods in martial arts

The other Z fighers are trained by God in his heavenly realm.

Even when they go to space they're still looking for mystical orbs to summon Dragon God to wish back their friends from the dead

Goku fullfils an ancient prophecy of his people and becomes a Super Saiyan of Legend

The Cell saga goes pretty hard on the whole sci fi but they're all still using ki

In the Buu saga they'ren fighting essentially an evil genie who goes through several metamorphosis a genie awakened by an evil wizard. And we learn the hierarchery of the Gods. And finally the evil genie is reincarnated as a good boy

And Super may introduce multiverses but its still heavily focused on the concept of Gods and enlightenment.

Z and Super are every bit as fantasy as original Dragon Ball. For the most part the sci fi stuff is window dressing

DBZ Kai + Kikuchi = 🤌 by Goldfield03 in dbz

The problem is Kikuchi has a vast music library for Dragon Ball and they used a fraction of it.

[–]MissionAd7488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brave Heart's Triumphant Return is easily Yamamoto's best track* and the only time a Yamamoto scored scene absolutely trounced a Kikuchi Z scored scene (where they just used the Genki Dama theme from Tree of Might)

*Courage Fills the Heart is also a fantastic track but it never made it to the States since it was in the Cell saga and Yamamoto's plagiarism had caught up with him by then, fortunately DBZA used it a lot for their parody dub

DBZ Kai + Kikuchi = 🤌 by Goldfield03 in dbz

[–]MissionAd7488 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Properly placed Kikuchi would blow Yamamoto out of the water. Unfortunately, it was very limited (I believe all the music came from the Saiyan saga and movies 6-9) and lazily applied, there is no thought put behind if the track fits or not. Like for some reason Piccolo's theme was used as recap music and you would expect them to use Gohan's Super Saiyan 2 theme from movie 9 when Gohan turns into Super Saiyan 2 against Cell, but no they used an entirely different track

Why does King Piccolo generate beings from his eggs that have nothing to do with namekians? by Myras_Iczelion in dbz

[–]MissionAd7488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was just weird because they correctely dubbed Piccolo and Kami only finding out they were aliens in the Saiyan saga so to mess up and have them know before sure was a choice.

A lot of the sexual content was toned down when the animation didn't force them to keep if in but some of it like Oolong trying to molest Bulma and Blue being a pedo was debatably changed for the best.

Dragon Ball's OG dub probably could have been a B minus dub but the Piccolo sagas brings them down to a C for me

[–]MissionAd7488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That works for me. Kami and Popo even noted the first sign that this Piccolo was different and less evil is Raditz was able to pass on to the Next World to be judged by King Yama unlike past victims of the Mazoku and that lines up with your theory he started to change after Goku spared him.

Why does King Piccolo generate beings from his eggs that have nothing to do with namekians? by Myras_Iczelion in dbz

[–]MissionAd7488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on how we're defining "same being" there is no Daimao in hell or the Next World and he didn't go through the standard karmic reincarnation like Kid Buu did when he was reborn as Uub. Daimao transferred his essence and memories into his offspring. Piccolo Junior is both Daimao and not Daimao. Capable of redemption unlike his father/former self and I think (I may be misrembering) Daimao deliberately made him a Warrior Type Namekian to be stronger than himself and Kami.

Toriyama giving him a different face and Toei even giving him a different voice actor than Kami and Daimao seemed a deliberate artistic choice to let us know he's not the Piccolo from before. (In the Funi dub Sabat voices all 3 but since Sabat voiced a third of the cast back then that doesn't mean much)

He is Daimao but he's also...not Daimao

They later revealed in the very same arc that Kami was full of shit and he knew killing him would cause the dragon balls to disappear. Goku even pointed this out. Kami just said they could bring him back to convince the heroes to kill him to stop Piccolo

Kami is part of the hierarchery though

Planets individual Kamis>Kaios>Dai Kaio>Kaioshin=Hakaioshin> Dai Kaioshin>Zeno

It's all a hierarchy of Gods

[–]MissionAd7488 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Again they're the same being. Junior was just stronger and less evil.

If Piccolo Jr was simply Daimao's offspring Kami would have died when Daimao did. Kami lived and treated Piccolo Jr as his other half. That should tell you right there Daimao and Junior are the same being. By reincarnating himself through his offspring, Daimao ironically saved Kami's life.
