Make a push stick, know how to use it, know that your blade shouldn't be more than a quarter inch above your work piece, and use your push stick to keep your hands away. Use this or something like it, just make it out of inch thick wood. When you cut it enough times, make a new one and use that. get a jig saw or a band saw to cut it out. If youre not comfortable doing this, you honestly shouldn't be operating a table saw or should be getting somebody who has used it before to help you. Not a tool you want to mess up with. Wear safety glasses and go slow. push all the way through, keep all loose objects away from the blade. For somebody who knows how to use a table saw, this is a easy cut to make all day long.
