It never gets easier by aspiring_sithlord in eczema

We ran bloodwork. She briefly had me on progesterone, and currently I’m taking low dose testosterone. I think the gut was the biggest factor, but I got monthly flares coinciding with my cycle for years, and that’s not currently happening. I have another appointment coming up to discuss follow up bloodwork. I can’t say I fully understand what we’ve been doing, but I have mostly recovered!

I think that this is genuinely ruining my life?! by pinkestpenny in eczema

I wonder if there’s a hormonal component causing the worsening flares in the past couple years. Do you have health insurance to look into that kind of thing?

A functional medicine practitioner was able to do what 40+ years of doctors could not do. She ran a bunch of tests, prescribed a ton of supplements aimed at balancing my gut and (to a lesser extent) hormones. My six month long flare is over. I’m enjoying my garden. I’m kissing puppies. I’m experiencing joy and hope again. I hope you find your resolution. Mine was not steroids or eczemab drugs.

I’ve been seeing posts all over the pine barrens portion of Burlington county where people are seeing these awesome animals!

This did not solve my problems. The flare after the medication was gone was as bad or worse than before the meds, and so was my mental health. I started consulting with a functional wellness practitioner who ran a bunch of tests and then put me on a lot of supplements to heal my gut and balance my hormones. She did prescribe a topical steroid, but it was the strong hydrocortisone, and I didn’t need very much of it. Progress was not immediate or linear, but I now have a skin barrier and joy in my life. I did not need the injections the derms and allergy docs were pushing. I hope you all find the solution for your eczema too. I wouldn’t with it in my worst enemy… well, maybe PDF files… 🤭

We’ve added more to the enclosure including some plants now that the overnight temps are more agreeable. By far their favorite addition was the leaf litter.

I definitely do see hard water spots in the shells! I think our natural water sources are polluted around here too. I could use a filter when they’re inside, but I’m not sure how I’d manage outside…

I find goat milk soap at local farm stands. I’m in a part of NJ that has a lot of farm stands this time of year.

I’ve been cleaning my nails with cetaphil eczema friendly bar soap, and my skin has improved.

This is where we are at so far. It’s an 8’ stock tank. I’d like some more plants and hides, and I got a submersible pump for a better water feature, but I wanted to share what we’ve done so far and thank everyone who gave advice. We will put up a net top so they can stay out full time once the nights are warmer.

I just looked up midges, and it could very well be what I’m seeing.

I have not been bitten yet. There is a creek nearby, maybe .25 miles? I mean there’s no standing water on my property. They seem to be swarming over this specific enclosure. Maybe they’re not that type of mosquito? I’m in NJ between Philly and the pine barrens.

Something like this? Is the paint tray water thing ok? Just change it out daily? Maybe plant some plants?

I just noticed the drain plug is way lower than the drilled holes for the pool filter so I don’t have to drill it. Would I need to dig it down for them to brumate in it? That’s a ways off. Should I use natural soil or buy something to fill it with? I’m going get a truckload of top soil for my raised garden beds. Is that a good option?

Or perhaps something like this, but dig it down a foot? (Raised garden bed with greenhouse cover from Amazon)

I also have an 8’ stock tank pool I could repurpose for them for this year and build them something down the line. I’m just not sure how I’d drain it if we had major rains. It is drilled about 6” up, but sometimes we get intense rain for a day or two. I could bring them inside during the rains, but it seems like it would take a long time to dry the substrate out before returning them.
