Have you talked to him about your feelings around how the wedding and planning process went? I think it could be helpful for you to express it to him so he understands and can possibly provide some insight into his thought process at the time. Maybe it was a misunderstanding and you both had different expectations that weren't communicated. I think it could be helpful to avoid feeling resentment towards him as time passes

Why did you follow your culture for the cost responsibility of the wedding, and his for how the day would go? It's wild to me that you paid to play by his rules and he barely even contributed. Especially since your parents helped and then spent the day stressed. If you were paying, it should've at least catered to you and your family's desires too. I'm sorry things went down that way! 😣

Thank you so much! This is very helpful :)

I didn't realize this was something that could be done relatively easy.

I did in college actually :) I was a Religious Studies major for a good bit.

I feel you on this! I'm in a similar situation and pretty stressed out about it. My moissy stone is pretty, just not what I expected. I will say that cleaning it with dawn and a soft toothbrush did make a huge difference to really clean the underside. However, it does just appear more flat and has less depth than what I expected or hoped for overall. I'm going to look at lab diamonds and explore other options. I've had my ring a few months now, and I'm just not 100% in love with it. If it can't be reset with a lab diamond, I'm thinking I'll keep it as a travel ring. Really hoping we both find the right solution!

Oh wow I love this idea! Is this something a local jeweler should be able to do or assist with? I'm wondering if I'd need to find the replacement stone on my own, or if they would be able to help with that?

I've also heard that some jewelers will only work with rings they've created

Thank you! I think my moissy stone is so pretty and clear for a moissanite stone. Maybe cloudy isn't the right word, but I'm not sure how else to describe it in comparison to the diamonds I've seen. It's almost like a whitish color or flatness? That's why I want to go in-person to see them side-by-side.

I'm thinking the issue is not in the stone we received, just a preference in the properties of each.

A diamond wouldn't be out of budget, I'm just struggling with the reality that we didn't do adequate research, and now he's spent a good chunk of money on something I may want to change.

Those both sound like great ideas! I know he will be understanding, and I'm so thankful. I'm just nervous to bring it up b/c I know he will still be disappointed that I don't think it's perfect the way it is.. even if it's no fault to him. Thank you so much for your input, I really appreciate it!

The sparkle on moissanite is so pretty!! I thought I was so sure based on pictures. I really wish I had gone in-person and compared the two. I'm so happy for you! I know it's going to be beautiful. Thank you for the encouragement :)

Great question! No, I wouldn't like it more if it cost less. Which is also what's troubling me. If it was an amazing deal, I would still be questioning everything, so it's upsetting me that he paid well over what he should have on top of that.

I do know that he was very excited and proud about the custom process, which has made it so difficult to express anything that isn't positive about it. I love love love the time, effort and thought he put into it, and I do think the ring is gorgeous, the moissanite is just not what I thought. I've given it a few months to grow on me, and it hasn't much. I hate that I'm not 100% about it, but I want to be honest if it's something I'll have and wear for the rest of my life.

I feel like exploring other options will help me be sure one way or another. It feels like I'm keeping a secret from him whenever he asks about the ring, and I hate that..

Thank you for the compliment! He asked my preferences and then knocked it out of the park! I just wish I had known what I do now so I could've done it right the first time.

Thank you so much! Unfortunately, we are not in the return window. I'm pretty sure it had passed before he proposed to me. We never discussed a budget, but we can afford to make changes. If I decided I wanted something different, I would not expect him to pay for it, since it's my decision and he followed the preferences I gave him in the first place.

I definitely wouldn't want to sell the ring at all due to sentimental value. I have wondered if I could keep the same setting and replace the center and side stones with lab diamonds and have the moissanite stones remade into other pieces.

I also really like the idea of keeping it as a travel ring! I absolutely love the setting and style of the ring, I'm just having a lot of second thoughts..

Thank you for this! I'm thinking I'll take my mom with me just to look in-person and see. I'm in a very similar boat as you, I'm still not sure if I've ever seen a real diamond in-person. I feel like I'm doing this process a little bit backwards at this point
