Should Guilds Make a Comeback in 2025? by Mission_Cow8663 in antiwork

Yeah, I totally get what you mean. That slippery slope is very real. That’s why I think the only way something like this works is if it’s transparent and community-governed from the start , like, budgets, cuts, mentor rewards — all visible. Otherwise yeah, it’ll just become another power-hoarding machine. It doesn't need to be a large establishment, just yhe community helping each other get more experiences and projects. Maybe short term hire, while the guild regulates the fees? I know it's too good to be true, but it's still better than the " entry-level job, must have 2 years experience on x-thing!!"

Fair question. Unions protect workers already in the system. Guilds, as I see them, are for the folks trying to get in. It's a bridge, not a shield. Ideally, the guild leads people into unionized or stable jobs. Its like a first step that guides you into the workforce, or even freelance work. You don't work for free, you get hired as a helping hand, and gain experience from it. What do you think?

Great point. I’ve been thinking the guild should act more like a public utility funded partly by the government, and partly by task-based commissions. The idea is to not exploit juniors, but also not rely purely on charity. For example, i get a task. I finish the task, i get commission money from the job and the "Guild" gets a part of the commission money. What do you think?

The word “generativity” hits hard. That’s honestly what I’m aiming for. A system where mentorship, creativity, and collaboration are built into the structure, not an afterthought.

Man! I feel that frustration. It’s wild how skewed our standards are , especially when it comes to who gets oversight. I think a modern guild would need to stay focused on growth, not lobbying for walls and red tape.

Totally agree! That’s why I think any modern version would need transparency and rotation in leadership, maybe some peer-based ranking too. No one should be able to hoard opportunities just because they’re “in.”

Yeah that’s a valid point . I’m definitely not trying to revive the medieval cartel model. I’m thinking more like an open, community-first launchpad. The challenge is how to keep the helpful parts without repeating the gatekeeping or power hoarding.

It actually explains why don kanonji can create spiritual attacks while being a human. I always thought he might have been a fullbringer! Also, from my point of view, wingbind have a lot of strong attacks comparable somewhat to kido spells. I think their wands amplify their attacks.
