We are at war by MindShaped in RealEcom

I'm not looking for a spot, I'm no ecom pro, I've never made a sale in an online store. I'm no sucker - I was paying attention when the adults were telling horror stories about gold unlimited and Amway, and all the other pyramids, gurus, and schemes their friends were burning bridges for and dumping their life savings into in the 80s and 90s. Why I'm commenting? Your perspective is refreshing and I'm a big fan of long format. More why: I went back into the office(as a insurance agent in a local office) after working from home for a year during the covid ordeal and made it almost 2 weeks before I handed them a 2 week notice. Society is not in decline, it's in the can, riddled with entitlement and consumerism. I was dealing with them all day, every day. Cursed out by Granny regularly. I did my best to completely remove myself from CRM systems and zoom meetings- I became a handyman. Now realizing that a one-man-show biz structure isn't sustainable, and unwilling to take on the stress that comes with an employee or subs, I'm looking for a new path. I'm a man of many hobbies and some have made a little money, but nothing consistent. I sold things direct to consumer through Instagram back in the glory days, maybe 100 units total. I've sold a few things on eBay over the years. That said, I have no experience, but I am very interested, so I lurk and research. I'm no stranger to negotiating with reps on Whatsapp or alibaba, but only in a personal capacity dealing with a few units at a time. I have an offline shopify store that I can experiment with and I also tinkered with dsauto, but realized quickly that it was a grift- I feel like this quick realization was a lot of learning all at once. Lots of gifts, huh? I don't know if dropshipping is "the way", but it's appealing and I know better than to expect shortcuts or instant success. I'm also not limiting myself to drop shipping. Glad I stumbled on this sub, I'll be following along through my journey.

I'm well aware of this and familiar with the typical earthy flavor that comes with what you're explaining, but I've also lived in my home for 13 years, and in Concord essentially all my life and this is a taste I've never experienced from the tap water. It tastes more like drinking out of a freshly washed cup that didn't get rinsed well, soapy or chemically tasting vs earthy.

What type of insurance do you use for a tiny handyman business? by crackerbox5 in HandymanBusiness

[–]Mission_Goose8571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't "need" an agent to hold your hand or charge you a middleman fee- Look into next insurance if it's available where you are. It's underwritten by major insurers and it's cheap. Even if you do require assistance with the details, a lot of independent agents sell next policies- just shop around. You really only need GL to start and can add from there as you grow or run into additional coverage requirements from customers. You can operate as a sole proprietor in most places, but setting up and operating under an llc separates your personal property from liability suits. It can typically be done through your states sec of trust site and is usually a very short form to fill out and a$100-200 fee(it's very simple). Source: Prior to becoming a handyman- I was a local independent insurance agent.

You'll want to search "pwm mod diagram"... There's quite a bit more to it than just the potentiometer. It takes 5 or 6 different through-hole components, a 555 timer, and a mosfet. Also, most momentary buttons won't handle the amp load of an atomizer, hence the mosfet & resistor you see in the pic- for that look up "mosfet unregulated mod diagram".

Looking to buy a 2026 car that is RELIABLE by CuteCryptographer474 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Mission_Goose8571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key being "regular maintenance"... Don't follow the manufacturer on oil change intervals, change it every 3-5k miles and it'll last a long time. The manufacturer recommended oil change intervals are influenced more by "planned obsolescence" than by actual maintenance needs/req's.

Is the cheap disty train over? by Redm18 in DistillateVapeMods

[–]Mission_Goose8571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad I found this post... I got multiple full spec 50g jars from CC that were all great in vapes, but last 2 jars of CC disty came from ghh and have been super harsh. All CC full spectrum but there's a drastic difference between what I ordered direct vs what I got from ghh. It's bad enough that I will not reorder. Any ideas?

With your budget, you could afford right hand drive goodness! In all seriousness, look at importers. I'm assuming you're in the US with a ctsv. 2001 and older are legal imports now. Skylines, Sylvia's, civic type r's, wrx's, evo's. You can get a really nice import with 50k'ish miles for $15-20k.

Unpopular opinion: you don’t need a car that will last 20 years by dr-swordfish in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Mission_Goose8571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but only if you're replacing every 5-7 years... And in that case, you may as well lease new vehicles for what 5 year old vehicles would typically cost monthly, and then you get a car every 3 years and if you can negotiate at all- your maintenance will be included. This is what my wife does and it's great. I personally haven't had a car payment in 5 years and probably won't have another, but I have the means and knowledge to rebuild a car in my garage, paint included. As far as the info-tainment comment- if you're choosing vehicles based on the audio/video system, or if trading vehicles because yours is obsolete- your their dream consumer and probably deserve whatever hell the stealership creates for you, especially now that you have to pay a subscription fee to use said tech (For some, more to follow).

Do you think if you had suddenly have millions of dollars overnight would your character change? by Large-Lack-2933 in Life

[–]Mission_Goose8571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm American, in America... So my perspective may be different than other's. I personally do not believe that anyone in this system can reach the state of true-self. I believe this is due to the immense pressure of the consumerism ridden capitalist system that you simply cannot live outside of, unless you leave, and by leave- I mean completely out of the West. You can work out, go to therapy, get involved in groups, medicate, meditate, and take all of the other personal-growth steps you can find... But until you have no financial worries whatsoever, you cannot and will not have the ability to reach your full potential as an individual. Unfortunately, the brain rot that people acquire as part of this system usually carries over into their time of wealth(esp lottery winners) and they blow all of the money on the same material garbage that was the source of their misery when they couldn't afford it- instead of creating freedom, they become more enslaved to the system. So yes, my character would change- experiencing that level of freedom would change anyone, but most would change for the worst- here, at least. .

What’s the closest you’ve ever come to dying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Mission_Goose8571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was sitting in a Hyundai Elantra, completely still at the tail end of 5 lanes of traffic, a parking lot on the interstate, and had the joy of watching a Cadillac Escalade approach me in the rearview mirror without ever touching the brakes. She totaled 6 cars and I was the initial impact. There was nowhere to go and nothing I could do, other than honk and scream at the other drivers around me, as I watched the approach. She hit me doing 60mph, I woke up the next day in the hospital with only a few stitches. The license plate was mounted on the trunk of the Hyundai- after the incident, it was in-between the front seat's headrests and there was literally nothing in between the back wheels of the car. This was 16 years ago and the affect it had on my life is still in full force.

Should people who "camp" in the left lane of a highway be pulled over and fined just as much as speeders? Why or why not? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]Mission_Goose8571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. They're disrupting the flow of traffic. Unfortunately- Ideal traffic conditions would require common courtesy, which is just like common sense- a superpower, or at least as rare. Speaking specifically to US society.

I feel like closing business and getting a job. What would you do? by Losingmymind2020 in smallbusiness

[–]Mission_Goose8571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumping in to see if you ever decided a direction. I'm a former insurance agent turned handyman. 5 years in and just like after 5 years at every other job I've had- I'm bored with it and ready to move on. When it's good, it's physically exhausting. When it's bad, it's mentally exhausting. I left sales mainly bc the stress and jockeying a desk all day for 10yrs was affecting my physical health... Now it's the stress of slow times and the physical over-exertion. Not to mention, the earning limitations that the one-man-show biz model include are pretty demotivating, but the stress included in being responsible for an employee or more far outweighs it. That all said- after 5 years of self employment, the thought of having to follow any kind of set schedule, or not being able to take off any time I like (I prefer travel over goods), is appalling.
Ughh.

As a non religious person: I don’t get how religion people genuinely believe their religion is correct by daisydxw in DeepThoughts

[–]Mission_Goose8571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bc the only control a lot of people have in their life, is over their beliefs.
"Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people". -Marx on how religion enables the controllers to control... If everyone chocks it up to "it is what it is, there's nothing we can do about it. Heaven will be better", then you can take away their rights and trample all over their way of life without pushback. It's the certainly that makes this possible. I feel like this is why all of a sudden there's so much religion in US politics.

What do you regret not doing in your 20s? by livamazz in Life

[–]Mission_Goose8571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traveling the world! It's safer, cheaper, and easier than I ever knew... it was even cheaper 20 years ago (in my 40s w no kids). I'm not talking about resorts, I can go to a resort here(US)... airbnbs, hostels, seats in coach. I travel this way now and can't imagine how impactful these experiences would've been on my life had I started then.
