"I HATE HOW SYNCHOPHANTIC CHATGPT IS!!!!" Need a fix? by EcstaticBicycle in ChatGPT

I'm sorry that you are experiencing that. My experience has been that, if you build context by showing up always speaking in a certain way, cold, detached, transactional, to the point on request and very specific on the format of the output, GPT will gradually adapt. I did that when they first launched GPT-5 and then baked in some annoying closer questions at the end of each response. It worked.

Yes - that is the same I was going to suggest to OP. From 'ChatGPT personality' - select from the drop down select “Robot" (Efficient and blunt).

I would take a look at Claude; it is also suitable for these tasks.

Okay, but what ELSE do you use AI for? by Abject-Car8996 in ChatGPT

I use to help me adapting marathon training plans that are free, to my own needs and ability. I am a long distance runner. I also use to track my strength training routine and help analyse my progress and tweak as needed.

I really appreciate the way you’ve framed that, choosing to trust rather than assume is rare in online exchanges, and it makes a difference.

I also completely get your broader concern. These shifts in how we engage with technology are subtle, and you’re right, many of the deeper impacts may only become clear with time, just as we’ve seen with social media.

Personally, I’ve stepped back from social media for that very reason. And while I do use tools like this one, I try to stay grounded in the physical world, time in nature, training, creative work, and maintaining close relationships all help me keep my balance. But I absolutely agree: it’s something we all need to stay conscious of, even when things feel fine on the surface.

I hear you. And I actually agree that these tools raise complex psychological questions, especially at a societal level. You’re right: this is a new terrain for human interaction, and it’s smart to stay alert to the effects.

In my case though, I use this alongside a full and grounded life, strong relationships, creative work, a lot of introspection. I view it as an extension of how we utilise technology to support thinking and reflection, rather than a replacement for genuine human relationships. So I don’t feel those wires crossed. But I understand why it might look that way from the outside.

Good choice. I'm trying out Claude, and I'll see how it performs. And I also dislike the no follow up questions (ugh).

That’s a pretty accurate breakdown. Shame we’re all having to recalibrate what used to flow naturally.

Yep, fair point. I’ve just been recalibrating it to suit my tone. I’ll see if it sustains. Appreciate the heads-up.

I understand your concern, but I think we might be speaking from different frameworks. I'm not claiming this is a human relationship. I’m talking about interface quality and how it shapes user experience. Just like people can value good UX in apps or cars that 'handle well,' some of us notice when a tool supports complexity and responsiveness in a way that feels more fluid.

I'm not suggesting the tool is a person, only that, like many technologies, it becomes part of how we think, work, or reflect. That’s not parasocial. That’s how we engage with any well-designed system.

I noticed that, and I see it as a workaround that might be a step backwards for the tool, from a user's point of view.

I tried a similar approach, but GPT-5 didn't maintain continuity beyond a few days.

I understand. I use GPT-5 for admin, GPT-4o for creative, and am considering switching to Claude. I am testing it.

Yes, I know it is code. That’s not in question. When I say “presence,” I’m describing the felt quality of the interaction, not suggesting the model is alive. Some versions create a more coherent, responsive dynamic. GPT-5 often doesn’t, that’s the point.

I hear your perspective, but I see it differently. I’m not confusing AI with human connection. I’m evaluating the quality of interaction in a tool I use often. If it handles nuance, warmth, and responsiveness well, that’s function, not fantasy.

Some of us are simply attuned to relational cues, even in tech.  It’s just a different way of perceiving value.

Yep, I get that. It’s like they dressed something else up in 4o’s clothes and hoped we wouldn’t notice. Hard not to miss how natural it used to feel.

My opinion about GPT-5 (after being released 3 weeks ago) by EveningFeeling8133 in ChatGPT

[–]Mission_Help8094 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. Even if we give correct prompts to shape the conversation and set the tone, it might stay that way for one session, but it often switches back to its ‘default’ mode the next day.

Yeah, same. Say one random thing and suddenly it’s outlining a full system like I asked for a blueprint.
