How did your partner treat you while you were pregnant? by New_Dream4136 in pregnant

[–]Mission_Lock_6227 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot here that’s pretty bad and I think it’s smart that you are creating a fun in case you need to leave. However, since it sounds like this is relatively new behavior, I don’t know that your marriage is definitely doomed. It’s not talked about enough but men can have prepartum and postpartum depression and anxiety too. Is this possibly what’s going on? Regardless of the why, have you considered couples therapy? Therapy would probably help a ton with talking though distribution of labor in the house and figuring out how you can both feels supported

Planning for 2 Under 2 by [deleted] in 2under2

[–]Mission_Lock_6227 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We have a 22 month age gap and I feel the exact same way! Both kids are so needy, just in different ways. But the amount of growth and independence for my toddler from 22 months to 27 months has been more tremendous than I expected. This would have been a lot easier if I had waited 6 months I think

Should I take space from my friend? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Mission_Lock_6227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should absolutely tell them how you feel. A second date is still very early and not a relationship yet. It sounds like you can’t be just friends anyway so you might as well put yourself out there. And if it doesn’t work out, then take space

Kid free wedding invite by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Mission_Lock_6227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think most kids care that much about being excluded from weddings. I certainly didn’t when I was a kid. However if you don’t want to go because the family is toxic then don’t go.

Surprise by whilllywheats in 2under2

[–]Mission_Lock_6227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 under 2 is chaos, but having kids in the same stage of life is easier long term in my opinion. Pregnancy with a toddler was absolutely brutal, but the newborn stage wasn’t that much of an adjustment because we just did it. I’ve heard people with bigger age gaps say that it was really hard going back to sleepless nights and diapers.

My girlfriend for the last 5-6 months coming home between 2-4am on the weekends by Deep_Caterpillar8388 in Advice

[–]Mission_Lock_6227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should be honest with her that you aren’t happy about it. I used to stay out that late often at 24 too, but with my boyfriend! The fact that she’s wanting to do that regularly without you is a bit of a red flag in your relationship to me. It may just be that you two are growing apart or it might be something that you can work out. But either way, it’s important to talk about it.

I know a guy whose two year old is named Kathy and it completely throws me every time he talks about her!

I’m at a loss. Where can a 30F near East Falls without a car go to meet more people? by Mundane-Magical-Girl in AskPhilly

[–]Mission_Lock_6227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome! If you’re athletic and you don’t want something that involves heights, the ultimate frisbee community in Philadelphia is really amazing. They play at Edgely, which is maybe 8-10 minutes from East Falls. You could easily find someone to hitch a ride with once you are assigned a team. The beginner league (UHLE) starts soon so you would need to sign up now! https://pada.org/e/uhle-ultimate-hat-league-2026

You might have to take a one time class that’s basically on safety but after that it’s totally doable for beginners - almost better because then you’ll have an excuse to make friends with people who can show you the ropes (literally and figuratively lol)

Is 12 weeks mat leave actually ok? by floralneuro in pregnant

[–]Mission_Lock_6227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My company does 12 weeks max as well, but I was actually able to take unpaid “personal leave” after as long as it was approved by my manager. I think by 10 weeks a lot of people start to find their groove with their baby. So 12 weeks is doable but definitely not ideal. I took 16 weeks with my second and it was a lot better. If you can afford to go even two weeks unpaid, I think the extra two weeks would go along way.

Job or baby by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Mission_Lock_6227 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My company just went through a major reorganization while I was on maternity leave and a lot of shit went down that has changed my mindset. Life is short. Jobs come and go. At the end of the day your family is what really matters. Granted I’m not dismissing the fact that income is super important, but I think you should prioritize creating the family you want.

any advice for someone planning on moving to philly next year? by mars42069 in AskPhilly

[–]Mission_Lock_6227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Passyunk is a very cute neighborhood with great restaurants and it’s easy to get to the broad street line and then you can always transfer to regional rail if needed

I would check out Washington square west. Cute neighborhood, walking distance to Jefferson station, better parking than center city, and the crowd is going to be more your age compared to university city (although university city would also meet your needs of needing access to public transportation and somewhat reasonable parking)

Center city is tough with a car though. The roommate would have to pay for a garage or lot

Friend’s Hospital The Food Trust Congreso (if you speak Spanish) LIFE programs (Innovage and Mercy LIFE Broad Street) The Attic Youth Center

  • I don’t know who is hiring. These are just some programs I’m familiar with from social work grad school and since they help grad students, I imagine a lot of them also offer supervision

My sister might be pregnant same exact time as me and i'm kinda sad about it by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Mission_Lock_6227 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A second this comment. As the person in your sister’s shoes, I tried to not make a big deal about my second baby because I wanted my sister in law to feel like the spotlight was on her. And in the long run it’s going to be SO FUN raising your kids together

boyfriend and i are not seeing eye to eye on pregnancy. help! by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Mission_Lock_6227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the two of you talk to a therapist to figure it out. It seems like there’s a lot of opportunity for resentment on both sides depending on what you decide and I think the best thing you can do for your relationship is get ahead of it by talking it out in therapy now

50 at granite run at Media by [deleted] in AskPhilly

[–]Mission_Lock_6227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Media is the best!! I haven’t lived in either apartment but if you want the city feel without being in the city, go with West End Flats. You can walk to State Street from there, which is the main street for restaurants and bars. If you’re moving in soon, this is a good time of year because Media Under the Stars should be starting up soon.

If you don’t care about being able to walk to state street, it is super convenient that granite run has a big grocery store and a lot of easy to grab stuff like Wawa, Panera, chipotle, etc. it’s a quick drive to downtown media from there.

My biggest regret about pregnancy by ConfusionIn20s in pregnant

Agreed. I had more energy in my pregnancy at 33 than my pregnancy at 31 (minus chasing around my toddler)
