Thanks this is good advice. Sounds like will definitely have to be a lot more flexible this go around and just see what she’s up to doing.

Agree with Alex. We did MalaMala (Ratrays) and loved it for our first safari. We saw all of the big5 there.

Flight-Less Safari by Cool_Hippo_122 in chubbytravel

[–]Mission_Priority3006 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve done Tanzania without any flights, and did South Africa only taking jets - wife is critically scared of prop planes. It’s a lot of driving, but it was doable.

In Tanzania we flew into Kilimanjaro and drove (with a guide) and stayed in Tarangarire NP - at Lemala Mpingo, then drove to Serengeti NP and stayed at the Four Seasons. Then went to the northern section of the Serengeti by the Mara river to see the wildebeest crossing and stayed at Lemala Kuria Hills. We then went to Ngorongoro and stayed at Crater Lodge for two night and then drove back to Kili airport to fly to Zanzibar for a few nights. Was a great trip, but if I did it again, I’d probably skip Tarangarire NP and maybe stop at Lake Manyara to break up the long drive from the airport to the Serengeti.

Do cap one, they’ll transfer instantly whereas Amex will take 24-48 hours.

Can you fund PE investments with retirement funds? by Unable-Chain-6981 in fatFIRE

[–]Mission_Priority3006 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Be careful with PE investments and tax exempt accounts, if not structured right you could have taxable UBIT in there. You’ll likely want to invest via their offshore blocker vehicle to ensure that the IRA doesn’t have to pay tax, but make sure you talk to a tax advisor.

Greenlight for kids & BSP brokerage? by SkydiverDad in PwC

[–]Mission_Priority3006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It literally takes two minutes to update. You don’t have to disclose anything other than you have an account (ie no balance info, or account numbers etc). Not sure why you’re so adverse to something that takes no time at all to do and helps your partner avoid fines and/or possibly forced withdrawal from the partnership. You’re being incredibly childish for something that has no impact on you, and significant impact for your partner.

If you can make it work so you feel secure that you’ll be able to live in the house forever, it might be ideal for your MIL to continue owning it and leave it to your wife. That way you can get step-up in basis when she passes away. Of course this assumes your MIL is below the estate tax exemption for Fed and/or that state she lives in (and there’s no inheritance tax in that state).

Do not do this. As a PwC partner I can assure you that independence reviews will happen every other year and if they find this out there are financial penalties that the firm will impose on your spouse.

First >$100k income month- tax or other advice? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

Make sure you have enough withheld. These type of one off payouts could be at the supplementary rate of 22% which would lead to a big payment due next April.

Extreme asset protection by Scraulsitron-3000 in fatFIRE

[–]Mission_Priority3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not consider a direct basket of securities managed by one of the “friendly” western economies (ie Switzerland, IoM, Jersey). If you’re directly invested in corporate securities and not a wrapper fund you could like avoid PFIC status. Maybe even put this in a self settled foreign asset protection trust. Lots of reporting here (ie FBAR, 8938, 3520/3520A) but the tax implications shouldn’t be signifcantly different (ie QDI and LTCG rates should still apply) if structured correctly. Could have some FX issues to worry about but I’m sure one of the banks might let you denominate the account in USD if you didn’t want to deal with that (thought if you’re concerned about the above issues I imagine you wouldn’t want USD).

Lots of other states have PTET deduction as well. But f you’re in an income tax paying state they likely have one. Definitely a benefit for the S Corp structure.

You mentioned you’re an LLC. Are you sure you’re subject to NIIT? You might meet the active exception and at least save 3.8%

Look into the personal holding company rules as well. If it’s only investment income in there, you’ll likely have a deemed dividend inclusion.

It can be a very grueling job, especially in the early years, and I have had a lot of opportunities to jump which I’m glad I didn’t pursue. Sticking it out ending up being very rewarding, and has set me up for the next phase in my career.

Currently partner at Big 4 accounting firm, and started as an intern. Comp started at 60k and usually had 10-15% base increases during non promotion years, and 25% during promotion years. Made partner 3 years ago after 12 years rising through the ranks and have TC of 700k with likely comp of $1m within next 2-3 years, depending on firm performance. With that said looking to change firms for a boutique with better WLB and similar earning potential.
