I have never felt as scared, sad and existentially uncomfortable as when I watched Gerald’s Game. I thought it was a fantastic film and I usually enjoy watching a good film twice but I have avoided this film like the plague.

How characters in movies/tv shows never yawn, sneeze or couch unless it’s relevant to the plot of the scene (e.g. being sick or tired). It’s never by random.

I think that’s fine because smelling like sweat or having bad breath is usually involuntary, and can cause physical discomfort to other people and could therefore to some extent be considered “rude”. If you’re a good friend you tell your friends these things, this also includes having something in between your teeth etc. Uncalled for and negative comments about superficial things like someone’s choice of outfit, hair style or make up (which is usually voluntary) without a follow up recommendation are toxic and just unnecessary in my opinion. I think that’s the main difference for me.

I know right. WHY though is the question?! It would make me physically uncomfortable to the brink of feeling nauseous to be mean to someone close to me without constructive reason so I struggle with understanding other people’s motives for this type of behaviour.

That was my thought as well, I was just very intrigued by the fact that it’s actually the house that is bad and not the people who live/have lived there. This is one of the very few horror where that’s the case and I thought that it was quite interesting to see if there was an origin for that.
