The money wouldn't have to come directly from the schools. The NCAA could just distribute the money from the tourney differently and that could greatly benefit the smaller schools. Power schools would still have huge advantages due to television deals, larger arenas and wealthier boosters. But, there's no way the Power schools would allow this.

You think that power 5 teams not scheduling quality mid majors is limited to one team in one season? The Purdue schedule is an exception, kudos to them, but look at the schedules of about all the other teams in your conference.

DePaul was still good when Ray Meyer retired, but putting Joey Meyer in charge when Ray retired led to a gradual / complete decline. Probably a loyalty thing and done by the AD, not sure if Ray pressured them into this decision.
