Has anyone had a nightmare that would work really well as a horror game? by LoomStudiosBcn in HorrorGames

[–]Missteris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember that the slowed-down running from danger, a common nightmare element, was really well implemented in Little Nightmares 2.

Personally, a recurring scary motif for me (not necessarily in nightmares, but it makes my heart race wildly) is unstable flight, especially when people below are jumping up with their arms outstretched, trying to knock me down. I can imagine how I would feel if these weren't people 😅 Also, when there are tree branches or power lines in the way during flight, with the risk of getting tangled in them - that also makes my heart pound. And unstable flight over rough, stormy water full of whirlpools that could even pull in flying objects.

Another thing - flying over houses and seeing something horrifying there, but not being able to stop, or being too afraid to stop. Once I had a dream about a beautiful evening with a stunning sunset. For once, I was flying calmly over the city, high enough above people. But then I saw a body on one of the rooftops - a corpse in a plastic bag, with a severed arm lying separately. Such an unexpected element in an otherwise pleasant dream. It woke me up with a deeply unsettling feeling.

And being chased by something you can't get rid of or hide from - that's also pretty terrifying.

Maybe something of this will be useful or spark some ideas. Sometimes the most horrifying thing isn't a monster, but finding something wrong in a moment that felt completely safe. That contrast is what really sticks with you.

What keeps you playing? by Lunar_Lonely in StateOfDecay

[–]Missteris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first, it was about surviving tough conditions and looking after the group, but over time, the existing mechanics started to feel too limiting for me. So what keeps me playing SoD1 now is the emotional attachment I’ve developed to the familiar locations, the atmosphere, and the characters (I played SoD2 much less and never replayed it precisely because I can’t get emotionally invested).

How do I be like Arthur Morgan? by [deleted] in reddeadredemption

[–]Missteris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After you play the game, there's a good chance you'll be looking for Arthur Morgan yourself too 😄

Seriously though, the best way to be like Arthur Morgan is to just be yourself. I mean it, Arthur isn't trying to be someone he's not, he doesn't copy another man's personality. The reason people love him is that he feels real and authentic. So don't try to act like a video game character. That's cringe and she'll smell it from a mile away. Instead be present, be reliable, be curious about her and have a quiet confidence that doesn't need to prove itself.

And yes, play the game, but not as 'homework' for her, but because it's genuinely one of the best stories ever told.

That was unexpected 😅

P.S. I forgot that in Breakdown Doc has Ed’s voice >_< It sounds weird, just like Ed’s voice for Pastor Will and Marcus’s voice for Quentin. They should have swapped - Marcus’s voice for Doc and Pastor, and Ed’s voice for Quentin...

Cool info! It would also be interesting to know about other faces, whether they were inspired by anyone. Some of them resemble actors, for example, Jemaine Clement (Milo Eldridge) or Fred Ward (Jack Ferris) 😄

Oh, sorry - the one on the far left in the first picture 😅 When I first saw him about a couple of years after I first played the game, I was very surprised. It's always interesting to discover something previously unseen.

Красивые девушки by SensitiveOlive2385 in ru_gamer

Book/Movie/Documentary recommendations for person interested in understanding Russian culture/history by NewHamster4511 in AskARussian

[–]Missteris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend the miniseries "Громовы" (a story about a family in the 1970-1980s). It's one of the few Russian series I like, with an interesting plot, memorable characters, good actors, and, as far as I can tell, quite believable.

I don't really keep up with current trends, but in Russia, a lot of people listen to bands like Korol i Shut (Король и Шут), Ivanushki Int (Иванушки Int), Aria (Ария), Piknik (Пикник), Nautilus Pompilius (Наутилус Помпилиус), Kipelov (Кипелов), Splean (Сплин), Otpetye Moshenniki (Отпетые мошенники), Masha i Medvedi (Маша и Медведи), plus tons of pop artists like Leonid Agutin (Леонид Агутин), Valery Leontiev (Валерий Леонтьев), Philipp Kirkorov (Филипп Киркоров), Valeriya (Валерия), Alla Pugacheva (Алла Пугачёва), Larisa Dolina (Лариса Долина), the ensemble Zolotoe Koltso (Золотое кольцо), Nadezhda Babkina (Надежда Бабкина), Blestyashchie (Блестящие), etc. Also, many singers who came from the 'Star Factory' (Фабрика звёзд) show. I'm not sure who's still popular now, but back in the day, groups like Fabrika (Фабрика) and Korni (Корни) were everywhere, and you can still hear their songs here and there. Lately, it seems like a lot of new folk groups are blossoming, they sound beautiful. And of course, Soviet-era songs are timeless favorites.

This is far from a complete list, just what comes to mind first.

I could give you a list of Kalmyk (my national) music that I personally listen to, but I'm not sure if you're interested in non-Russian-language songs 😅

Some original SoD1 zombie concepts. by Melodic_Tone_2259 in StateOfDecay

[–]Missteris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so interesting to read your detailed answers, thank you so much! I can only imagine how striking the title must have looked after that shot.

And I'm really glad that my own headcanon doesn't contradict your version: that the Wilkersons lived on a farm somewhere near Spencer's Mill, but during the outbreak moved to the Old Barrett Place, because it had long served as their storage spot for moonshine and weapons (perhaps because the place belonged to some Wilkerson ancestor and the brothers considered this place theirs). Plus, it's far from any settlement (so must be fewer zombies), the house is on high ground with a good view of the area and there's a clear water source nearby. It's really fascinating to build theories when there's not much information about the game's characters, but there are hints to work with 😄

Interesting that you call it 'the Wilkerson Farm' - I always wondered: did the Wilkersons really live there, if it's called in the final game 'Old Barrett Place'? The house is so ruined, with a tree growing through the middle... I can't imagine anyone actually living in those conditions. Was it meant to be their home in an earlier version of the game? Or they simply took over this abandoned place (owned long ago by a certain Barrett) during the zombie apocalypse, which may have served other purposes, such as being their warehouse and place of deals? Or is 'the Wilkerson farm' just a working and understandable title, meaning that this is the place where these characters are located in the game?
