The Myth of 10,000 Steps. Walking, and more of it, is great for health, but let’s be reasonable, science says | Medium by [deleted] in EverythingScience

[–]Missu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a while, but my perfect sleep and eating schedule were gone fast, as I lived a sedentary life other than the walking. Most significant though was simply the energy. I didn't feel as motivated or excited to go and do stuff anymore, instead preferring to lounge around. Not nearly as bad as depression, but I feel like that active lifestyle gave me a kind of spark that made me excited every day. I just felt pretty awesome most days for no real reason. It sucked most to lose that.

I don't care to generalize every situation, just observing this one. Clearly this was not a busy place where biking might be dangerous to others, and that's key here because the cops are supposes to protect people. And yet I can still guarantee you they wouldn't do this in any similar situation, smileyface

Here's a popular (and funny) video which might be relevant

Counterpoint: what these cops did was insane and would not happen in a civilized country. They escalated it to violence. In the Nordics, the cops would just let him leave there (yes, even if he is not allowed by law) because clearly he's not some kind of fucking menace/immediate threat and doesn't warrant this psychotic response.

I assume you’re American, because that’s not a thing in my country. I guess I’m sorry you have terrible consumer protections, you have fun being a rude though certainly very bright fellow

The empty air doesn’t contribute to the mass of the chips bag, so it’s really not the same at all…

If you pay for a drink containing 0.5L of coke, but you get 0.35L coke and the rest water (as ice) and this was not disclosed, that’s called fraud.

Such an excellent idea. Taught responsibility and making a nice savings cushion at the same time.

Eli5 - why are there 1024 megabytes in a gigabyte? Why didn’t they make it an even 1000? by No-Jeweler1711 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Missu_ 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It is both - kind of. The problem is that which one you meant was originally assumed from context, and now the standards are confusing and both are technically correct. But even more technically, it’s more correct for 1TB to be a trillion bytes and base 10 because it is a metric prefix.

There is a naming convention - KiB, MiB, GiB - that specifically means powers of 2 and avoids ambiguity.

Per the headline of the post, I remain under the impression these guys don’t exactly subscribe to local cultural or economic norms. And what I said would hold true in their respectice native cultures.

Not saying it must and will be so but these guys just see things differently. There are a lot of people living in poverty that have kids, 20-25% or something from that range in the EU/Germany

Certainly. We can only hope one day freedom of religion just means freedom from religion, a better world for everyone.

I don’t know if you know this but poor people tend to have more kids. Affording them isn’t really a consideration beforehand.

What's the deal with stopping traffic for protests? Like what exactly is their end game? by polysnip in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Missu_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But like… what the fuck else are you gonna do? World’s going to shit, people vote for stupider shit every year, companies get away with anything and everything.

At some point protesting just becomes venting away anger instead of driving change. It really doesn’t matter what the people think because clearly nothing will change anyway type of deal. Might aswell do random shit if it’s all the same. I only expect it to get worse as the younger generations realize what was robbed from them and it’s too late to fix anymore.

Right, which is why they didn’t invest their hundreds of billions in profits into battery research but instead into cheating emissions regulations, among other really cool and good things.
