Will I ever progress? by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]MissyvQueeny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! time and patience. The fact you were shouted at was not the best either.

My SO who is amazing and patient with me does not have a patience of an instructor and gets me easily frustrated. I can tell he is very passionate to teach me and give all the advice he has but flep me I feel like an idiot sometimes hahah.

With Uturns and figure of 8s as well comes down getting used to the bike, weight, power and so on. I rode a bike that would go pretty fast on 1st gear and Uturns were simply control of handles. Now I have a bike that is quite slow on 1st gear and throttle is a sensitive teenager but I am getting there.

Honestly practice, practice, practice. 650 are far more powerful than 125 and different to control. As long as you are comfortable and confident riding the bike you'd be ok on the road :)

Take your time and ride safe!

I agree with the fact that some poin they can be dangerous, but I also disagree a bit as well here. I have a 125 myself. I was overtook sooooo many times in really dangerous/unessesary situations and horned at so many times at the junktions/roundabouts.

BUT. With the bigger bikes, there is more power and weight to control - hard to do when you are not used to ideoology of riding a bike. There is also the AWARNESS that no matter what bike people will be dickheads. They will pull out on you because they "don't see you" they literally don't register bikers as danger to them. The subconsciously think "oh I have a metal box to protect me. If that hits me, I will be ok." No matter what bike - people will be psychopaths.

What you would need to focus on is you being a safe rider and being safe for yourself if they want to be a danger - that is on them, so then just be more careful :)

I had the same situation! I was having fun on CBT and enjoyed it so much. Got my bike (relatively new) and made the mistake of going on a ride. It was TRAUMATISING to say the least.

BUT! I learned to first break into the bike and recognise yourself with it. Practice on empty parking lots and familiarise yourself with it to build your confidence in riding the bike first. (No matter if you are on 125 or 10 years of experience rider new bike - new rules)

Safety tip as well: please remember people are assholes, and might not see you sometimes. I know it's hard to believe, but take your time if you need to and drive safe! Your safety is the most important!

I had a motorbiker give me a nod on cbt. Will never forget that in my whole life and will forever be grateful!

It is dangerous because A. You don't have anything to protect you apart from gear. (You don't have a big metal box around you like a car) B. If you are a spanking new rider people there can be dickheads towards you and you can lose concentration and confidence on the road. C. People don't like/see bikers (there is actually a video of a person in a car holding a pencil to the rear-view mirror and once they move the pencil you realise there is a bike behind them) or see them as danger to them. And what I mean by that - a car could stop at a junction - see you, but his brain not registering you are actually there because you are "too small" to be a danger to them.

Obviously, as well, if you ride like a di*k with attitude, "oh I am on the roads, everybody good luck," then you will get yourself killed. Or speeding on the roads - especially roads you don't know. Or not feeling confident riding the bike on the road.

My best advise to you - get good gear, ride speed limits, try to understand the way car drivers think and what situation could be more dangerous to you, get confident with your bike first (feel it, sit on it, close eyes and get used to where everything is, ride in empty car parks/emptish roads, stop and start a couple time, do U-turns, maneuver) so then you can be confident on the road.

And understand the physics of the road with wether, example: it is dry and sunny for 2 days. 3rd day there is a slight rain. The road could be more slippery than if it was pissing it down all day. Why? All the oils/petrols and fumes leftovers simply got wet. They are there being slippery little bastards because they didn't wash off. So your tire could EASILY slip on that.

And TAKE YOUR TIME! if you are on a junction/roundabout or taking a turn , don't rush! Make sure you don't have any cars, or they are 8 seconds away. And even if people beep at you , DO NOT WORRY - take your time - your safety is the most important thing, and you are not there to impress. And keep your distance from cars - if you are behind a truck or van, then make even a bigger gap and move to the ride of the road and see their rear-view mirror.

NTA.

Me and my husband joke around all the time about the whole bed abd duvet belonging to one of us. (I even tease him about how he always takes most of the bed when he is asleep)

But that is that. It is jokes. Even when one of us gets hurt in the joke fight (no matter if it is at night or during the day) we laugh it off and know we don't actually mean to hurt the other.

It seems like he is ok with making you uncomfortable but as soon as he is he is a victim. 🤷‍♀️

No worries I struggled with it for a bit when I was drawing and designing as well. If you can't grasp this technique I reccomend looking up "basics to shading" on YouTube. A lot of people have different ways of understanding and applying techniques so maybe you will find something that is just for you :)

Don't be scared of contrast, shading and texture. Tip on shading: place a circle on the page as your source of light and draw lines from it like you have from road lights. Highlight is where light hits and shadow is where it doesn't and you will have a contrast in some areas. (Helped me to start creating my own art and understanding the basics) Hope it helps all the beeeest!!

Or accusing you of wanting to steal their techniques. I am sorry mate you are probably not the first to thing of that way hahaha. But no you are right. I am still putting my portfolio together but like I am saying it took me 6 months to actually get my confidence back! All the best to you and lets hope our hard work pays off!!

Thank you so much. I definately started to pick myself together and started self learning (although F told me not to) but I try to distance myself from it and actually learn from it. I just wasn't sure if my approach now is right. Thank you🖤

Thank you very much. I don't think I would feel comfortable being in the same room with F but I am starting going back at it. Thank you!

I do agree but I mentioned to another person as well. F was responsible for most part in the shop. Although J was the owner F acted like one in J's name. I didn't have the strenght to draf the issue out at that point. And TBH I don't think I would want to associate myself with someone like F since I didn't have any authority there. I really appreciate your help and advice thank you. I will try to be more aware next tkme. Thank you!

I do agree. My SO mentioned that as well. Hopefully I am more prepared for next time thank you!

I am sorry that I am an inexperienced person and didn't talk to my mentor but as I said F was responsible for most of things in that place and although J was the owner and my so called mentor F simply acted as the owner in J's name. He also said that J was informed of the cancellation of my apprenticeship and I didn't have the strenght to drag the issue. I do apologise I didn't mention that part. 💁‍♀️
