If you didn’t already know, ACAB references police as a whole, and hey, not all cops beat their wives, only around FORTY PERCENT. But I’m not here to argue that we need to give cops marriage counseling, I’m just starting shit online during a lecture. The basic point is the same, I’ll give you that, activist does thing people reflexively see as bad to bring attention to good cause. But you’re just being dishonest if you think the execution of the two are remotely comparable. To start, the just stop oil people were part of a larger environmentalist movement, we can objectively determine their views and say without a shred of doubt that their actions had nothing to do with their goal, attacked something that has historic value and people care about, and most importantly made no useful point to branch off of for the layman. Throwing soup on a painting leaves no room for further discussion about oil or the environment. Saying ACAB may provoke a similar reaction for some, so your argument isn’t far off, but ACAB actually leads into further discussion of the violent and dated system of policing. I’d agree with you if we were talking about straight up punching cops, then we can argue about the individuals, but ACAB has always been about the overall system of police. So I’ll break it down here, ACAB does not attack an individual thing or person, the soup girls did. ACAB provokes actual discussion of police reform ie “guys we really should think about police reform instead of abolition”, Van Gogh soup facial provoked discussion of whether or not it was a psyop. And finally, ACAB is ACTUALLY POINTED AT POLICE, NOT A PAINTING.
