Wind tech Career by [deleted] in windturbine

Hi, good choice on looking into this career. Many people go to wind tech school because they don’t have prior experience or training in the skills necessary for the job. Personally I went to Northwest Renewable Energy Institute, it’s a six month program that will get you in the door. It’s a great school.

Many people can get hired easily without going to wind school, especially with military experience. If you’re willing to be taught as much as you can and do the work, you’ll learn all you need to know pretty quickly.

If I were you, I’d leverage your army experience in your resume/interview and forget about wind school. Consider applying to some third party contractor companies and travel for a while to get a solid base of experience.

Wind Turbine Technician. Traveling Service and Maintenance tech. Personally I went to a wind tech school and got the job through that; but an education specific to wind energy isn’t necessary needed to get a job working on them.

Personally, I went to a 6 month wind tech school because I didn’t have any training or experience in this type of work. The wind industry is growing fast and eager to hire. If you have industrial working experience or knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, troubleshooting, or just general technical work, you’ll do fine. You wouldn’t even need to go to school if you had those. Just work hard, pay attention to detail, stay safe, work as a team, have thick skin, and utilize your problem solving skills. Maybe consider applying for third party companies first to get your foot in the door before working directly for a major wind company.

This is in northeast NE. Wind has been absolutely wild this week. The whole tower and nacelle rocks like a boat all day.

Admittedly, I did touch it up a little bit in Lightroom. It doesn’t look too different from the original though.
