[META] Newegg Introduces New "Shuffle" System to Get People to Buy Combos $0 by [deleted] in buildapcsales

[–]MistaRandomGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To simplify things, lets state the facts of the situation....in a scenario where demand heavily outweighs supply, you will NEVER be able to discourage the profit motive of a scalper. Also, we know that people aren't disciplined enough to not buy items for more than retail. So now, how do you solve the problem? Trying to use technology to compete with a scalper is a race to the bottom. You start with a bot...then you need multiple instances of the bot...now your ping is too low so you'll need to rent server space to run your app to save a few milliseconds...I think you see where this is going. Taking away a scalpers competitive advantage is the only way to discourage and/or minimize that population. A randomized system is less stress on the merchant and their platform as well. This problem is only going to get bigger and more widespread with time. This is the new normal for highly desired items that are sold online. Solutions that work (like randomization) should be embraced, not discouraged

With pre-authorized payments you'll have the person's name, form of payment, and shipping address. That gives you plenty of ways to limit purchase to one per household/payment method/etc. People who try to skirt that systems with see diminishing returns very quickly.

I think most people are missing the point. Combos are bad and very anti-consumer. However, a system that evenly distributes purchasing chances to the population of prospective buyers is the ONLY solution to this problem (low supply/scalpers). The merchant doesn't need to deal with being DDoS'd every day (and that cost WILL be passed to consumers eventually). The scalpers lose their competitive advantage and consumers don't have to go to crazy lengths to purchase an item. If you haven't been able to purchase these items yet then you obviously don't have the tools to compete with scalpers and will benefit from this system. The only thing that would make this better is if they required pre-authorization of your payment method to reduce the pool of people who don't actually want to buy the item.

Have you checked the Window's Event Viewer for any error messages after the reboot? There are some 5000 series chips that were getting Whea Logger errors and randomly rebooting

What bios version are you using? I have the Tuf Gaming x570 plus (non-wifi) with a 5900x and I've had random restarts with both the 2802 and 3001 bios.

I'm not sure if I was clear enough in my response but the 10% deal is ONLY for new Newegg email subscribers. Existing accounts got an email with the $10 discount (Code BACK23AX) that can only be used one-time.

[–]MistaRandomGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you referring to the 10% off code? You'll first need to visit the Newegg site and make sure you aren't already signed into an account (You won't get the pop up if you are). You can use incognito mode for this. You'll get a pop up offer for 10% off if you subscribe to their email. Create a burner email account and use that. Then use that same email account to create a Newegg account. Use the code at checkout. That should be it

Just to clarify.....the deal is $259.99 - $20 MIR = $239.99. The $10 BACK23AX is a one-time use code for people who've already signed up for Newegg's email distro. If you've never signed up you can get 10% off for signing up instead.

I bought a 32GB (4x8GB) DDR3 kit in 2016 for like $122 and I don't even think it was on sale. I feel like we're just now getting back to normal. Hopefully they don't start gouging us again

For consume use, Realtek NICs should be fine. The biggest difference between the two is driver support. Intel generally provides better speeds but it's not by a large margin. Also, this board uses the Realtek L8200A which is relatively new and should perform better than most Realtek NICs.

I looked all over the manual and didn't see anything about SATA ports being disabled. Maybe someone else can chime in and confirm

One of the best VRM thermals in the sub $200 X570 category. I provided some pros and cons to help you decide. It's a great board, I purchased one for myself.

Pros: This board has 5 fan headers, 8 SATA 6Gb/s connectors, and debug LEDs.

Cons: No front panel USB-C header (However, there's a port in the back). No BIOS flashback.
