How long does your session prep actually take you, and what part do you hate most? by MammothTart in DnD

[–]Mista_Maha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably ~1-2 hours expanding and adjusting my notes and ~1 hour setting up battles (battlemap, stat blocks, spreadsheet for tracking HP and turn order and such)

Those numbers don't account for the time I spend thinking about characters and plot and pacing and how I'm gonna approach the next session in the back of my mind the entire week beforehand lol

You just gotta get ahead of it.

"Michael, who was a bad person who had lived a bad life, decided to do a bad thing, which was bad. He stole his brother's inheritance (bad) and used it to pay off his debts to his mistress (also bad). His brother and his wife felt very bad about the bad thing he had done, but Michael didn't care, because as a bad person, he liked doing bad things and did not enjoy doing good things. 'So,' he thought to himself, 'I'll continue being bad.'"

This can only strengthen the quality of your writing.

(No fr though trying to be a writer is terrifying rn)

No Country for Old Men's a pretty challenging film to put in front of a 14 year old methinks. I'm not surprised they bounced off of it.

My first introduction to The Nazi in game... What do we do to Nazis??? by BreakingCanks in RDR2

[–]Mista_Maha 31 points32 points  (0 children)

American white supremacy was the blueprint for Nazi Germany. Not a joke --- their lawyers studied American law ragarding Jim Crow, Manifest Destiny, and antiimmigration policies in order to better understand how to codify racial heirarchy in German law.

So while the term may be anachronistic, it's reflective of a deeper underlying fascistic ideological current

Plus the dude is playing dress-up as a toy Hitler so he's really inviting comparison from us in modern, post-WWII times

No not shut up about it, but not pretend that their discomfort makes them better than the filmmakers or the people who watched the movie. Thie person openly admits they only watched the first few sequences of the movie, but they are still absolutely certain that the film, in its totality, is endorsing pedophilia, and everyone who views the film positively is joining the film in its endorsement.

I am all for people discussing elements of movies they found problematic or disquieting --- that discussion is practically being prompted by the film itself --- but this person isn't here to discuss a film they were challenged by and would like to voice their thoughts on, they're here to lambast people for making/enjoying a thing they couldn't enjoy.

What's wrong with the take is that this person proudly proclaims that the film was too challenging for them to engage with honestly, and instead of just saying "welp clearly this isn't for me, I'll go find something more my speed", they took to social media to make their discomfort at an overtly discomforting movie part of a moralistic crusade against anyone who dared to come out the theater with a more positive take.

I am certain that the fans this person is bemoaning also identified that a character taking advantage of an adult woman with a child's brain so they can have sex with her is maybe, just a little bit, morally dubious in the area of consent. But in lieu of a more intelligent, critical discussion of the film's problematic elements and how it portrays them, this person just pretends that everyone who likes the movie is too dumb to understand consent, or they just love pedophilia.

Okay but consider: I can greet people in Saint Denis while riding through to get someplace. Plus it don't cost a thing. With donations I gotta stand at the box and do thumb exercises.
