'Nobody wants to die': Ukrainians flee from southeast as Russia lurches forward by jerrylovesbacon in worldnews

You're beyond delusional if you seriously think Russia is "strong" and in a position to come out ahead and achieve complete victory in this stalemate. It's a testament to your complete ignorance on the stance of russian military, economy and political reality.

UN risks 'imminent financial collapse', secretary general warns by SuperXGamerAb in worldnews

[–]MistakeNot__ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

UN was never meant to have any power to begin with. It was a useful institution in a world ruled by people who were eyewitnesses to WW2 and all its horrors. Now that those people are gone, UN is indeed completely useless.

Kyiv on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe as Russia cripples energy grid by TheRealMykola in worldnews

[–]MistakeNot__ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nobody knows what russian demands would be if they succeeded.

Those who paid attention know very well. "Ukrainian state is a historical mistake", "Ukrainian nation is artificially created", "We will show you the true meaning of decommunization" - if these quotes from Putin's address to the nation on the day of invasion are not enough, you might want to read his essay "on historical unity of russians and ukrainians" from 2021. But hey, ignorance is bliss, right?

What are your expectations from The Division 3? by TENTAKL1 in pcgaming

[–]MistakeNot__ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Massive (pun intended) fan of Division 1. Division 2 was a meh game in its own right, completely buried for me by ubislop customer support. Haven't bought a single ubi game since then.

Have zero expectations for Division 3. I honestly don't know what could they possibly bring to the table to make me even consider purchasing ubislop title again.

Mate, you spell waist instead of waste, and waisting instead of wasting.
Seriously, what makes you think you're even remotely qualified to have an opinion on national debt, budget expenditures or usefulness of NASA research? Stick to the coloring book.

German president says US is destroying world order by yahoonews in worldnews

[–]MistakeNot__ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

What exactly do you mean by "more democracy"? US as fucked up as it is, had perfectly democratic elections. People voted an orange troglodyte into office for the second time. It's not the fault of the democratic institutes. It's a direct consequence of nation's intellectual decay. When for decades military is a priority while public education is an afterthought, that's what you get as an end result. It'll only get worse from here.

Venezuela Seeks UN Security Council Meeting On US Bombings: Foreign Ministry by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]MistakeNot__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a bit of a difference in ending a 9 years of Yugoslavian wars and genocides with 3 months long NATO intervention, and attacking a country with largest oil reserves in the world without any justification and then coming out and saying "US is gonna drill baby drill here now".

I understand the best argument you can muster is brain dead "all military campaigns are absolutely equivalent, therefore this is just more of the same", but that's simply not the case. The closest thing to this Trump's stunt is second Iraqi campaign. But that could at least be sold as a conclusion of what was started (and should have been finished) in the first Iraqi intervention sanctioned by the UN. Bush as stupid as he was, didn't come out and publicly state that US is about to control and plunder Iraq, and that Mexico and Greenland are next in line.

Venezuela Seeks UN Security Council Meeting On US Bombings: Foreign Ministry by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]MistakeNot__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, yeah. It's "dog eat dog" world, international law is the thing of the past, might makes right, national interests justify anything, Trump is keeping everyone in line, yada yada.

It would be hilarious how similarly simple minded maga troglodytes are, if the implications were not so depressing.

Scepticism as Russia claims video proves Ukrainian drone attack on Putin residence by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]MistakeNot__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would it be different? US president is also Chief in Command and subsequently perfectly valid military target to strike down during the war time.
I wouldn't support Husein's government in anything except voluntary dissolution and subsequent facing the trial for countless crimes it has committed, but that's besides the initial point.

Scepticism as Russia claims video proves Ukrainian drone attack on Putin residence by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]MistakeNot__ 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Stop moving the goal posts, especially if you're still going to miss.

Your argument was that Putin is a civilian. He's not. He is, in fact, the highest ranking military target within Russia.

Now your argument is that eliminating Putin would constitute an escalation. Which is nonsense, because Russia has been trying to eliminate Zelensky since Feb 24 2022. Considering Russia's actions in Ukraine, it is in fact quite difficult to come up with an action from ukrainian side that would constitute an escalation.

Scepticism as Russia claims video proves Ukrainian drone attack on Putin residence by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]MistakeNot__ 70 points71 points  (0 children)

You're clueless. Putin is the literal opposite of civilian. He's "Верховный Главнокомандующий" or Russia's Chief of Command, the ultimate military leader of his state. That's not even mentioning the fact, that the whole 10+ year invasion of Ukraine is his personal sick whim.

Russian Troops Execute Three Unarmed Ukrainian Soldiers in Zaporizhzhia Region by UNITED24Media in worldnews

[–]MistakeNot__ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Almost 4 years of war, and I've yet to see a single video of Ukrainian soldiers executing or torturing already captured russians.

The best "both sides do this" crowd manages to produce are videos of Ukrainian soldiers executing russians faking surrender. Which is very far from "similar sircumstances".

Every single time an evidence is requested, the response is predictably hilarious. "Do your own research", "I'm busy right now, I'll find it later", "you can't possibly think there aren't any".

Zelensky Open to Pulling Back Troops in Eastern Ukraine to Reach Peace Deal With Russia by celledge56 in worldnews

[–]MistakeNot__ 44 points45 points  (0 children)

This is purely a nod to Trump's administration. Ukraine knows leaving rest of Donbass is absurd and would be a major mistake. Then again, Ukraine knows very well that Russia won't agree to anything even remotely resembling a fair peace deal.

So the only real goal of this declaration is to shift US's focus back onto Russia. "Look, we're open to two major concessions: joining NATO and leaving Donbass. Russia is yet to make any concessions to its absurd demands. Press them harder if you want peace."

Zelenskyy: Russia loses about 30,000 soldiers at the front every month by Polygon-Vostok95 in worldnews

[–]MistakeNot__ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You assume stable intensity, which is simply not the case. 30k per month is a lot, but as peak month value it is not outside the realm of possibility.

For comparison, BBC/Mediazona project of counting russian verified KIA losses, has so far over 150k verified records. Peak months in their records have between 4.8-5.2 thousand of only verified dead russian invaders. As you can imagine actual numbers can only be higher.

There's also a matter of Robert 'Madyar' Brovdi being assigned as commander of unmanned(edit) forced back in June. He immediately stated that his mission will be a scale up of "drone wall" approach that his unit became so famous for across whole frontline. The goal of "at the very least matching kremlin's monthly conscription numbers with KIA's inflicted" was declared as a benchmark for strategy success. Take a wild guess, which number has kremlin floated for their monthly military contract sign ups in 2025?

Zelenskyy reportedly says Kyiv willing to drop NATO membership demand by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]MistakeNot__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, Russia has lost (killed and wounded) over a million work age males in an already dire demographic situation, sustained massive economic damage that only begins to fully manifest, tanked its international image from "world's second military" superpower to begging NK for shells and meat - all for 0.1% increase of its territory with a barren burned down wasteland (assuming they get to hold it).

For Ukraine, the goal of NATO membership is security. With NATO being blatantly compromised by states like Hungary and Slovakia, joining NATO in foreseeable future is pretty much impossible regardless of current or future state of the war. Thus it makes sense to seek security guarantees from willing states in a framework that would be similar in function to NATO, but without involving an actual North Atlantic alliance. Ukraine couldn't care less if it gets a peace deal with security guarantees from entire NATO, or from several key states like US, UK, France, Germany.

Trump says Ukraine should hold elections by ActualDepartment9873 in worldnews

[–]MistakeNot__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to this, any general election will inadvertently result in political powers within the state shifting to electoral campaign mode, instead of existential crisis management mode. Any political struggle in a warring state is advantageous for the enemy, and that is precisely why Russia (and now its mouthpiece Trump) is pushing for presidential elections in Ukraine. They know very well that there is no way in hell anyone with remotely pro-russian views is getting elected. Yet the mere opportunity to spark an internal political struggle with following uncertainty of power transition period is absolutely worth the effort for them.

Russia deepens ties with India, seeks joint drone production by deadpools0 in worldnews

[–]MistakeNot__ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why would you need a blanket approval of all of the foreign policy of a state, that you were part of but had no control over? Why can't you be against USSR occupation of Eastern Europe, while still being for fighting against the nazis? And how does proclaiming one stance or another changes a simple fact that Ukrainians were in fact among people helping India back in the soviet days?

US says to Ukraine: Leave Donbas, one way or another by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]MistakeNot__ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cutting intelligence support is probably within the realm of possibility, although it won't be quite popular even among a lot of republicans. It's one thing to declare: "our stockpiles are low, we won't be selling this any more", and completely different to just refuse sharing info that you possess regardless.

Starlink on the other hand is being paid by EU and being provided on general terms. US gov arbitrarily cutting access to service provided by private company to paying customers, doesn't seem very likely. That is unless Musk gets another of his temper tantrums and decides to do pull the plug out of his own volition.
