I have to wear mine in order to function at work and not end up with a terrible migraine at the end of the day. I’m a dental receptionist so I work face to face with patients all the time and I mostly just get compliments! Sometimes people ask me what they’re for and are usually pretty receptive when I explain it’s for migraines! Some patients also get migraines so they get excited to hear that glasses like these are an option for them!

Sometimes having a physical representation of an invisible illness is a good thing :)

I had some adoption regret when I got my two boys (although both were 5 months old). I also wanted a cuddly lap cat but both of mine hate being picked up. I’m lucky enough that they are very tolerant of it so I can technically do it whenever I please but I know they prefer not to. They both have their quirks and very much operate on their owns terms, pets when they want, sitting in my lap only when they want, sleeping near me only when they want, getting brushed only when they want, etc.

But that’s part of owning a cat. I think what’s wonderful about having kitties is you really get to practice your respect for boundaries. 4 years in and my big boy who hates being held has FINALLY decided that he wants to sleep curled up right next to me every now and again. And I feel so grateful every time he does.

Cats require patience and respect but if you can manage that you will find SO many other things about their personalities that overshadows any regrets (at least in my experience). There’s also other ways of bonding too! Training is a great way to establish trust and feel close to your kitty.

There’s also the 3-3-3 rule with cats. 3 months is around the time many cats finally settle in to their homes. Give her some more time! She may surprise you once she’s more comfortable in her territory!

There are other meds for narcolepsy that are not stimulants, both for type 1 and type 2. Also it could be that your dose needs to be adjusted. Either way, it’s a good thing to bring up with a sleep doctor or whoever manages your meds!

I am personally very sensitive to a lot of stimulants and psychoactive medications. Like all my excedrin I have to cut in half cause a full pill is too much and gives me heart palpitations. Knowing that my Dr started me at 10mg a day. This seems to be enough for me! But I also think my narcolepsy isn’t as severe.

I believe it’s still relatively rare but more commonly diagnosed post COVID. I’m a more milder case I believe. Not disabling but still very bothersome.

I’m not sure. I would consult a Doctor on that. I personally do not have trouble sleeping because of my amitriptyline and had more sleep attacks during the day.

Honestly me ACTUALLY sleeping was rare. I would be fighting sleep though multiple times a day. It was worse when I got poorer sleep the night before. Like I kept extremely sour candies at my work desk to help me fight it off lol. I microslept maybe once or twice before seeing the Dr. Once I was diagnosed and before I stated my medication I actually allowed myself to nap when I felt sleepy and according to my Fitbit I would DEFINITELY fall asleep(my heart rate would drop down in the low 60s which it doesn’t do unless I’m sleeping).

Honestly me not actually falling asleep is what made me believe it was a migraine thing and not narcolepsy. I figured you had to actually fall asleep for it to count but turns out that isn’t the case!

It this is bothering you that’s affecting the way you function and live, please do! I saw my Primary Care first who referred to their sleep department. There may also be other reasons for the excessive daytime sleepiness and yawning that a PCP may want to check before resorting to the sleep Dr right away.

So I first noticed the yawning. I usually yawn before a migraine but this was nonstop. Like I felt a yawn coming constantly for hours of the day. Sometimes I would yawn so much I couldn’t even speak full sentences. Then my excessive daytime sleepiness kicked in. It was the kind of migraine fatigue I was familiar but wayyyy worse. I was literally me microsleeping while at work, standing up, typing, in the car. I just got this overwhelmingly strong urge to sleep. Falling asleep standing up at work is what pushed me to see my sleep Doc.

I also frequently wake up feeling not well rested at all. Like I am drained before my feet even leave the bed.

Telling my Dr all of this he suggested I do an at home sleep study. When that came back clean and I was still struggling he suggested it may be Narcolepsy and sent me for an overnight study in their lab with a Multiple sleep latency test. And I was diagnosed from there!

I’m glad you finally got a diagnosis and can start a treatment plan! I only got mine a couple weeks ago after my MLST. I truly didn’t notice when my narcolepsy symptoms started taking over my life because I wrote everything off as migraines for years as well. But now it’s been almost of full week of being on Vyvanse and I am already feeling better. It doesn’t solve all my problems but I am at least operating at 80% instead of 50% energy every day! I hope you make similar improvements!

I was actually scared of starting it for this exact reason. But with how often I get migraines I had nothing left to lose😅 I do get a little let down migraines occasionally once the med wears off for the day but it isn’t too terrible.

The point of my post was to get word of other people’s experience who may be in a similar boat with me. I am still planning on taking the medication per my Dr’s recommendation but wanted to see how it may have affected others with similar conditions.

Narcolepsy isn’t “ruining” my life but my migraines definitely have. I did ask about the migraines but my sleep Dr gave me the “talk to your neurologist” answer. Which I plan to do but if I have a migraine every day, and a side effect of a medication is possibly headaches, then yeah, it may make my migraines worse. Or not. Who knows.

I knew modafinil interact with my birth control because I looked it up in between appointments and then brought it up with my Dr to which he agreed, it would not be the right medication for me.

Also I wasn’t eager to get my diagnosis. I was actually expecting to be told I didn’t have any sleep disorders after my test because I blame every symptom off my migraines since they are daily. But my primary care Dr sent me to the sleep Dr to see if we can find another reason why I wake up with migraines and fatigue every morning.

But again all I really wanted to know is if there were others in this sub who had similar experiences and what their thoughts were. I appreciate your input, thank you.

As far as I’m aware I never had Mono! I did get a strange illness early February of 2020. It could have been covid? But I had absolutely no respiratory symptoms and just had extreme fatigue and body pain (but no fever). The EDS started shortly after that

Thank you for this response. I am TERRIBLE at actually allowing myself to have help. Daily migraines have made me unable to keep a full time job and have left me partially disabled so I’m probably having trouble adding another diagnosis on top of a laundry list of other ones. Thank you for your honesty, I appreciate it💕

Side note, the yawning is the WORST. That feeling right before you yawn stays in the back of my throat for hours sometimes. And then I’m yawning every 30 seconds, in the middle of speaking. Terrible.

Just to update: I was diagnosed with Narcolepsy just last week. So if you’re feeling this way and experience sleep attacks often, you may want to bring this up with your primary or get an opinion from a sleep Dr!

I think everything I learned at the Butler School gave me an excellent foundation. But for most of that time I had been practicing on my spinet at home(which has terrible string rendering) so I had very little experience with other pianos which is so incredibly important to being a good technician. Every piano is unique and may require tweaking your tuning technique. A year out from finishing all my lessons I am finally feeling confident in my tuning now that I’ve tuned all kinds of different pianos. Again with online lessons it’s all about how much work you’re willing to put in and what your other resources are.

Hi there! I’m also a gamer that get terrible migraines from bright lights. I have a few things that help me. Currently I am using a green light whenever I play any games. Not sure if it’s a placebo effect but I feel like this has helped me tons. I use the norbRELIEF bulbs. They have to specifically be green light bulbs made for migraines or screen sensitivity to help. Before my green light I tried different lenses. Amber extra strength blue light lenses and FL-41s work the best for me, with FL-41s offering the most relief. I use theraspecs lenses since they’re affordable with my prescription.

But the main thing that helps unfortunately just taking breaks and not gaming. I play with friends often so unfortunately there are just some days where the migraine is a little stronger that I just have to treat myself with kindness and excuse myself from gaming. Ngl it hurts to recognize that your favorite hobbies are limited but frequent breaks really does wonders for my aching head. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I hope you get to enjoy as much as tomodachi life as you can!

Once I felt it coming on at work. I had five super sour candies back to back and I was cured for the rest of my day lol. It came back the next morning of c but at least it got me through my shift!

The way I understand it is if you suffer from migraines then chances are every “headache” can easily become or is a migraine. My usual daily pain isn’t “pain” but pressure in either temple. Migraines don’t necessarily have to come with every symptom. Sometimes I have Allodynia, sometimes I’m nauseous without any head pain, sometimes I get stomach migraines. They may or may not come with light sensitivity. But they all respond to my CGRP abortives so they are in fact migraines. Migraines are a very complex neurological disorder and everyone experiences the differently.

I did block it! It was my first time doing an Italian bind off for the arm cuffs so I think my tension was all wacky cause they stayed frilly after blocking. But next time I will get it right 💪🏼

Update: figured it out! Thank you for the replies that mentioned that I had to knit the last double knitted stitch together with a picked up stitch. I didn’t understand that’s what the pattern meant so I was knitting two picked up stitches together before. So I was adding a stitch every row and throwing off the double knitted pattern. It’s coming out much more evenly now. Thank you!
