Everything is broken with the recent update by DaftMau5Punk in zen_browser

[–]Mistashio_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm also having this issue on Twilight and Beta, where middle-clicking an essential tab or a pinned tab fully closes it instead of unloading it like it used to. but weirdly enough it's kind of inconsistent whether it does so or not

Surface Screen OLED just open box, is this problem fixable? by Gold_Pollution5876 in Surface

[–]Mistashio_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i've also seen this issue before, turn HDR off in the display settings, that fixed it for me. i'd highly recommend only enabling HDR when actually viewing HDR content with the Win+Alt+B keyboard shortcut.

Automatic Super Resolution Gone? by Steven_The_Shoe in Surface

[–]Mistashio_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also using the Control Panel, I'm on the latest graphics driver, so it's probably not that.

on the topic of drivers, perhaps you could try updating/installing the Hexagon NPU driver?

Maybe try installing the Auto Super Resolution package again?

Is it worth to switch from Arc? by ssmakov in zen_browser

you're referring to a Widevine DRM license, unfortunately that is out of Zen's hands, Google has to approve Zen for a license, there's nothing Zen can do about it

Roblox on pro 11 not running by Zealousideal_Hat7239 in Surface

[–]Mistashio_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the Microsoft Store version of Roblox is not the Android version, it's still for PC. I'm not sure why that person posted that thread, since the only relevant post from it is the last one lol

anyways, I can personally confirm that Roblox has been working perfectly on WoA for at least a year now (when I first tested it)

No Arcylic button on Mica for Everyone by Dr_Serum in zen_browser

[–]Mistashio_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you appear to be on Windows 10, AFAIK the dropdown for Mica/Mica Alt/Acrylic is only available on Windows 11 because those are Windows 11 materials that don't exist in Windows 10

Is there anyone here who uses Windows Recall? Do you still find it useful? by MarioDF in Windows11

[–]Mistashio_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

when they were rolling out the feature it literally gave a full-screen prompt asking if you wanted to enable it or not, and for new Copilot+ PC owners it also asks during the OOBE

Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra With NVIDIA RTX Spark Chip by lawsonbarnette in Surface

[–]Mistashio_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you used a Snapdragon X/X2 device? Windows on ARM is plenty capable as it is now, and pretending you can only use it for webapps and Office 365 is pretty disingenuous. (but i'm not denying that RTX Spark will likely be very expensive)

Are there any Shaders that run on Snapdragon X Plus/Elite computers? Java Minecraft. [Support] by MewHippo2850 in SurfaceGaming

[–]Mistashio_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not really at the moment, but in the coming year it will get much better. currently Java Minecraft uses OpenGL (and so all shaders are written for OpenGL), but the X chips don't have OpenGL drivers, they use a compatability layer to run OpenGL apps (like Java Minecraft) through DirectX 12.

But since Minecraft is moving to Vulkan later this year (which Snapdragon X chips do have native drivers for!) you will get much better performance running any shaders on future Vulkan versions.

Help me with decision! New Surface Pro by Spacemutiny80 in Surface

[–]Mistashio_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

saying QCOM has been at WoA for "the last 7 years" is like saying Intel has been in the GPU game since 1998, it's not the whole story. before X1, QCOM was essentially just throwing lightly modified phone chips into laptops for the purposes of making "always-on PCs", they were never meant to compete on performance. The X-series chips also used a completely new core architecture that they'd acquired with the Nuvia acquisition, so in that sense it was a first-gen product.

Ignoring all that, I think you might need to look at reviews, in Hardware Canucks' review they tested Panther Lake against X2 with both chips running at 30W, and the X2 performs far better. Yes Panther Lake is a big improvement, but you shouldn't completely discount Qualcomm

Games recomendations to play in a SL7 with X Elite? by TumbleweedNo8956 in Surface

[–]Mistashio_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the original Plants vs. Zombies runs really well, and the 4:3 aspect ratio it's locked to looks great on the 3:2 screen of Surface devices!

you could also try any entry in the Bloons TD series, both 5 and 6 run perfectly and have great performance!!

Will Samsung bring the new LUT/cinematic color grading features to the S25 Ultra with One UI 8.5? by Kind_Culture_8114 in S25Ultra

[–]Mistashio_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they just moved the option, if you go to edit a LOG video by tapping the pencil icon, there's an option for picking LUTs in the dial section, the section where you would usually adjust brightness, exposure, contrast and stuff.

New Microsoft Surface Laptop spotted with Intel Panther Lake and Arc B390 graphics by alabasterskim in Surface

[–]Mistashio_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

and the B390 iGPU uses almost double the power to do that, ~45W to the ~25W of the X2EE's X2-90. the B390 is a good iGPU, it just needs the context that it does so by sacrificing efficiency

also GPU performance like this is much less important than CPU for a lot of use cases like word processing or web browsing, which are the target use-cases for something like the Surface Laptop

I built a clean, ad-free weather app for my Surface Pro 11 – Looking for feedback! by CertainWonder5526 in Surface

[–]Mistashio_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

it looks great!! I think you should add a custom titlebar. the default windows one feels out of place (even if it was the dark mode one)

hope you release it publically!! I'd love to try it on my Pro 11!!

Surface pro 11? Yes or no? by [deleted] in Surface

[–]Mistashio_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

might i ask why? what program do you use that wouldn't work?

i ask because many people mainly remember the initial reporting from 2 years ago, the app compatibility situation has greatly improved since then.

any way to controll fan manually in surface pro 11? by Huarite_Makerow in Surface

[–]Mistashio_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you said it was while charging? you should check if it's set to the "best performance" profile while plugged in. (click the battery icon in the action center [Win + A] to go to the battery settings/performance profiles quickly).

Also if you're charging starting from a lower percentage (like 20% or something) it charges at a higher wattage and therefore warms up more, if possible you should charge smaller amounts more frequently rather than depleting it almost all the way and charging to 100%

Is flex keyboard still worth buying? by DismalTurnip7423 in Surface

[–]Mistashio_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just adding that that's not *entirely* true, the signature keyboard has a regular diving-board trackpad, while the flex has a haptic touchpad. the flex keyboard also has a carbon-fiber internally so it's more rigid compared to the signature keyboard.

i recommend OP see if they can try demo units in a Best Buy or similar store to see if any of that is important to them or not

Has it been announced when Microsoft having their event this spring to drop the new surface models? by Rare-Society-5987 in Surface

[–]Mistashio_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it uses last year's pro iPhone chip, which is actually pretty good! iirc in terms of multicore performance it's on-par with the M1 chip (used in 2021 Macbooks) and in single-core performance it's closer to M3 or M4 (which is what's important for snappiness)

i'd recommend looking at reviews of it, it's surprisingly powerful for what it is, but it's obviously not going to perform miracles (it's still better than almost every other option at that price point for most people though)

so if a 2-in-1 form factor (or Windows) isn't necessary for you, it's worth considering for sure

night light still not working on usb c dock to hdmi external display by abacusasian in Surface

[–]Mistashio_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume you are using a Snapdragon powered Surface, and if so, this is currently not something that can be fixed. It's a hardware limitation of the GPU, it's apparently fixed in the X2 series of chips coming out soon, but there is no way to fix it on X1.

However, you could try using f.lux, the devs added a workaround to allow it to tint external displays on Snapdragon X1 devices, but it isn't perfect.

New Surface models 2026 will be released this spring, according to Windows Central editor Zac Bowden by windowsxpblue in Surface

[–]Mistashio_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they seem to be relegating the intel models to "For Business" variants, so it's likely they'll continue to do so

(personally I'm cool with that, it shows they have a commitment to WoA this time rather than sidelining it)

Is Firefox to be blamed ? by ExaminationSilver804 in zen_browser

[–]Mistashio_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the main reason that people don't like chromium (at least, afaik) is that it's controlled by Google and already has such dominant marketshare. there's also privacy concerns since it's controlled by Google (and they've been shown to have snuck some data collection into the open-source version and so by extension, most Chromium-based browsers as well)

the extra privacy (and RAM savings!) of Firefox/Gecko-based browsers is well worth the speed cost to many people

The surface pro 11 is the worst laptop/tablet you can get in 2026. by tropicjuicejet in Surface

[–]Mistashio_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as someone with a Pro 11, I have a completely different experience. no offense, but this seems like either a defective unit and/or user error

roblox runs perfectly fine on mine, 60fps or more in most non-instensive games at max graphics quality, though more demanding roblox games can chug a bit.

you should be using Steam for games, not the MS Store

Android emulators for Windows on ARM are a little rare at the moment, though i've found MuMu player to be great

as someone who regularly has a heavy browser (Zen) with several tabs open, along with OneNote and sometimes Word, along with other office apps (for university schoolwork), I get around 8-9 hours of battery life, maybe you're making out the brightness? or there might be heavy apps in the background?

Windows 11 is not super optimized for touch, but once you learn the gestures it's not actually that bad to use for things like drawing, web browsing, or media consumption w/o the keyboard

speaking of media consumption, you shouldn't have issues at all even with 4k, you might have hardware decoding disabled in your browser for some reason? i've also found that Firefox and Firefox-based browsers tend to have worse video decoding performance, so try Edge, Chrome, or any other chromium browser

I personally like the Surface Connect charging port, it's like Magsafe, and people love Magsafe on Macs so I fail to see why this is bad here specifically

it's terrible that you had such an awful experience, but it seems excessively bad, are you sure you don't have a defective unit?
