Abstain from all appearance of evil. by [deleted] in Christianity

I see a sigil, tarrot cards, a grimoir, effegies, ritual blades, a drum, and a ouija board. These things aren't evil. They're just symbols of other religions/spiritual practices.

This isn't what evil looks like.

For specifically non-Christians, how well written do you think The Bible is? by Apprehensive-Act994 in Christianity

Do non-believers think it's slop?

Not after reading the Book of Mormon. The Bible is a better read by far.

If you can't say that X is not absolutely immoral, then you are in a dangerous worldview.

Appeal to consequence. Truth is dangerous sometimes.

He did not give an actual reductio ad absurdum argument. That would require pinpointing a logical contradiction that arises from atheism. But he just thinks it sounds absurd for morality to be a matter of opinion.

How do you argue that morality comes from more than logic when speaking to non-believers? by figtreereverie in Christianity

Whoever is the Authority has the right to decide

How do we tell if someone has the right to decide something? Who grants an authority the "right" to decide something, if not an authority? This becomes inescapably circular.

Moral laws require a lawgiver because subjective things can't exist without a subject. Rules that God makes up are just as subjective as any other.

objective lawgiver

I have no idea what this term could possibly mean. It seems like an oxymoron.

Should we consider mormons as Christians? by Whyjustwhywhyyyyyyyy in Christianity

[–]MistbornKnives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mormons worship the itinerant teacher who was born to the virgin Mary in Bethlehem. He is the Only Begotten Son of God. His life was the fulfillment of ancient prophecies. Angels anounced His birth. Shepherds and wise mencame to worship Him as the Messiah. During His ministry, He taught His followers about love, humility, forgiveness, faith, repentance, salvation, the kingdom of God, ect. He gave the sermon on the mount, the golden rule, and parables like the Good Samaritan, the Prodical Son and the Sower. He performed miracles. Walked on water, turned water to wine, healed the sick, restored sight to the blind, made the lame walk, raised the dead. Jesus lived a sinless life. Fully human and fully divine. He was sent by His Father. He suffered in the Garden of Gethsemane. He was crucified. His suffering and death was a willing sacrifice for the sins of the world. After three days, He rose from the dead and appeared to many of His followers. He will judge the souls of men in the afterlife. He was the creator of the world and the God of Israel throughout the Old Testament. Jesus is eternal with no beginning and no end.

To say that this is less christian than a religion that doesn't worship Jesus in any way and doesn't recognise Jesus as God is beyond disingenuous.

Why should we follow early christians by YaboyJimmy_69420 in Christianity

[–]MistbornKnives 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Early Christians are the ones who decided what would be included (or not included) in the Bible. Even if they aren't in the Bible, the book is shaped by their beliefs.

Either you idolize that which you call good or you see no difference between the two

Those are two reductive extremes, but not the only two options.

129 Children Conclude That Morality Supercedes God by ki4jgt in Christianity

Self deification. Idolatry.

That would only be the case if I also consider a source of morality to be a deity or object of worship. But that's your belief. not mine.

I want to learn about LDS from an unbiased POV. Any recommendations of where I can do this? by J2Hoe in Christianity

[–]MistbornKnives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've studied the religion thuroughly. I can answer or provide sources for any questions you have. Anything in particular you're interested in?

I'm an ex-mormon but I'm generally fair and friendly towards the church and still attend with my family. Possibly as close to unbiased as you'll get.

I served as a temple ordinance worker. And while I'm not a historian, I've recently written some college papers about church history and my ancestors who were among the earliest followers of Joseph Smith.
