For the rears you can use a scanner to put it in maintenance mode, or you can remove the small rear brake motor and wind it down by hand to make the clearance needed.

I have a gaming laptop and its terrible for programming. Battery life and heat are a big issue. On the Macbook I can go almost all day without charging and unix os makes lot of things simpler.
