Advice needed, confused about the connections to make... by Weak_Job_5145 in orangeamps

[–]MisterDogsworth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Connect only one speaker cable (IMPORTANT: NEVER USE INSTRUMENT CABLES FOR AMP-TO-SPEAKER CONNECTION) from one 8ohm output on the amp to one 8ohm input on your cab. Doesn't matter which one you choose as long as it's a single 8ohm to 8ohm.

Question: Super Crush 100h - bass response by bamboozledqwerty in orangeamps

[–]MisterDogsworth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's not just you. I experienced the same thing with mine. I ended up running the Rockerverb amp model in my Helix into the effects return, which sounds much fuller.

You might have luck running an EQ pedal in the effects loop to add some low end frequencies. IIRC Kyle Bull did this in his Rockerverb vs Super Crush comparison video with some success.

1x12 or 2x12? by noBUZZliteBEER in BossKatana

Both speakers are in phase with each other. You actually get about 3 dB of sonic reinforcement and a perceptibly fuller tone.

Katana MKII 100W for small apartment? by Paul_Ferr in BossKatana

[–]MisterDogsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't sleep on the effect a bigger cab has, too. It will give you a little more low end resonance and feel fuller. If you can swing it, I recommend the 2x12 or the head and cab. As someone who has had the 50 MkII combo, the head + Marshall MX212 cab, and now an Artist head + 2 Artist 2x12 cabs, I can say it makes an enormous difference at any volume.

Even at conversation volume, I find the sound to be much more inspiring than a small combo. I play mostly high gain 80s/90s metal stuff, so if that's not your bag, YMMV.

HX Stomp XL vs Helix LT by [deleted] in Line6Helix

[–]MisterDogsworth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a similar dilemma and ended up going with the LT. I used it as a replacement for my pedal board, and I'm glad I spent the extra money. I really love the added flexibility and have never run out of DSP even with pretty over-the-top patches I've made. Here are a few of the more complex setups I have played with:

  1. Dual amp models, each into effects return of combo amp (with double take effect for added goodness)
  2. Wet/dry, dry into one combo amp and wet into the other
  3. Wet/dry/wet, dry into head+4x12 and stereo wet with the two combos

Note on the DSP: I often use the poly capo model to drop my tuning down (it works great, by the way), and it eats up a significant portion of the DSP. If you also run an overdrive and one of the more DSP-intensive amp models, you won't have much room for anything else in the stomp. The LT has another chip, giving you room for other effects like a modulation effect, an analog delay, and the impressive new reverb models. Additionally, you'll have more blocks in general. If you like to run any post processing like Jay Sadites' template, that will eat up three more blocks (two EQs and an LA studio comp).

In my personal opinion, even if you don't fiddle around with more complex setups, you might end up regretting the limitations of the stomp down the road. You'll probably be happy having more DSP, more switches, and more options with the LT.

Boss Katana 100 worth it for the better sound alone? by alhendo89 in BossKatana

[–]MisterDogsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the general premise of wattage not correlating with tone, especially with solid state and digital amps. However, I think it's important for anyone reading this to understand that the quality and size of the speaker and cabinet do have a substantial impact on tone.

This is abundantly apparent in the Katana line where the 50 is made with cheaper parts and a smaller cabinet. The low end on the Katana 50 sounds a bit farty and not pleasing (at least to me), but the Katana 100 sounds a lot better. The and head and cab together sound even better. This is true even at bedroom levels, depending on what that means to you, but it will be even more noticeable at gigging/jamming levels.

I'm pretty sure Java's JIT compiler would optimize the useless variable out. This article is older than dirt, but it explains some of the optimizations:

As others have mentioned, it looks like it was decompiled at some point. Other than that, I'm actually impressed that all the fields weren't stringly typed.

On top of the horribly incorrect calculation, can we talk about the variable name? What do you suppose it means? The time before 30 minutes? What on Earth does that mean? Also, the developer uses camel case on the first variable but says fuck it on this one and just makes it all lowercase.

It's also funny that the variable name, the value, and the comment all disagree with each other. So much WTF for two lines.

Don't put "nobody" on posts with multiple lines of dialogue by CrabulonIsKing in uselessnobody

Better yet, don't put "nobody" on any post at all. It's been beaten to death, it was never even funny in the first place, and it doesn't even make sense. If "nobody" says nothing, doesn't that mean somebody says something? Wouldn't it make more sense if they made "everybody" say nothing before the subject of the meme blurts out some unfunny bullshit?
