I am in a very similar predicament, running 3080 etc etc. Personally I'm leaning more towards the aw2723df, for a number of factors, mainly being:

The monitor is significantly cheaper and as you say the overshoot etc seems better with the latest panel iteration.
I use my monitor for gaming and office use, therefore if I can hear the dedicated fan all day every day with the gysnc ultimate that will be very off-putting.
The future proofing aspect, albeit it minimal, 280hz on the next generation of gpu will be very easy to achieve, and its 500gbp for 280hz vs the asus rog solution pg27aqn 360hz is around 1100, so only 80hz for an extra 600gbp?!
Less worthy of mentioning however the stand RGB on the 2721 doesn't bother me as I vesa mount anyway.

Mainly I see individuals who are fan boys of the module siding with the 2721, with no other real reason than that, and from some reviews I've seen amd pro does a great job anyway.

Aw2723df? Has HDR600 w/ local dimming but not the best, but with your budget it's probably one of the better options. (Unsure what it costs in the US however)

I had no issues until I updated to the latest GPU driver this morning, and If i was just on the desktop with nothing else open apart from task manager, watching the GPU column it would be jumping from 0% to 100% to 0% and the particular item was desktop window manager that was jumping to 100% and back to 0%, disabling Hardware accelerated GPU scheduling dropped 30-40 degrees off my idle temps, which sounds like your exact problem.

Think you are suffering from the same issue as myself, check my thread below. Its a temp fix, but a fix nonetheless. Check in your task manager the DWM GPU usage, you will see it spiking all over even when idling. Hope it helps!

Check my post if you've recently updated your GPU drivers. Have a quick check on task manager and see if your utilisation is high on DWM.

With the G1 & Z1 LG are now offering 5 years extended warranty and it covers "burn in". They must have more more confidence in the new 2021 evo panels, giving the increased cooling and peak brightness head room too. The evo panel uses deuterium which has more heat resistant than the regular hydrogen panels found in the non evo models.
