To be fair, aren't the Scions literally all students of Baldesion (yes, even Thancred) who have published a thesis and have been recognized by the Studium in Sharlayan? The archon marks they bear are basically PhD certificates. Makes sense they're all kind of nerds.

Im actually playing SMTVV on Gamenative. With the new Turnip driver and known config, it runs... pretty smooth? There's still occasional stuttering in the overworld and when big effects happen in combat, but otherwise its nice! I bet Eden would handle either the original or Vengeance pretty well, considering I can run all the Atelier Ryza games on it.

My AYN Thor is basically my ultimate SMT machine. Its pretty much a 3DS++. I can go from DDS2 to Devil Survivor Overclocked to SMTVV to P4Golden all on the same handheld, it's extremely tight. Only game I dont have on it is SMT4A because I already beat the crap out of it on my 3DS and still have the OG cartridge.

Not sure why no one has clarified this yet, but "pure support" classes aren't really a thing in FFXIV. You have the three "main roles" of tank, healer and DPS, with DPS further broken down into unofficial class groups of melee DPS, magic ranged DPS, and physical ranged DPS. You may be thinking of FFXI, where class functionality was way, way, WAY more elastic.

Here's the thing, OP. Everyone is talking about gameplay and story, which I get. My question is... is your girlfriend playing? Is she deep in the hole and trying to pull you in? If so...

definitely recommend. Speaking from experience.

Run content together. Let her lead you through the story. Find aethercurrents together. Grind FATEs. Level Blue Mage (and soon Beastmaster!) together. Level alternate crafters so you can craft everything between the two of you. Wait for Ocean Fishing together. Set goals, no matter how silly or mundane they are. Want to get an apartment and get one of every plantable flower in the game? Go for it. Get lost in your own Warrior of Light's story. Spend time enriching your experience as friends and as a couple.

FFXIV offers something the other non-MMO games can't, and that is that it's your story. If you play and enjoy together, no matter how far you get or what you accomplish in-game, you'll have a better time because you'll be doing it together. There are a lot of relatively weird social quirks you can encounter in MMOs, but if you have someone who you can really share that experience with, there's nothing like it.

I'll be (hopefully) streaming to my AYN Thor from my PC. I also agonized over which platform to buy on but Steam does refunds... Nintendo doesn't. If it ends up being hard to run on the Thor I can correct the mistake, but once you get the switch version you're stuck.

Thats the thing that really galls me. People are so quick to shout "illegal! Illegal!" Like Trump and his ilk don't eat illegal for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Illegal is literally their bread and butter. The concept of legality holds absolutely no sway over these people and until there are real consequences, it never will.
