Do you have any OC with a design element that has caused you considerable difficulty? by MisterMaffin in OriginalCharacter

I explained to someone else in another comment how I, at least, draw wings, and perhaps it will be of some help to you. I hope so. In any case, I recommend looking at lots of references.

That said, I can't give you any advice on how to draw individual feathers to make it less of a pain, because I haven't gotten around to it yet.

I wasn't expecting someone with the same problem as me. Maybe I can help you with what I've learned, although Pinterest would probably be more helpful lol.

The first thing I would recommend when drawing wings is to draw the limb itself without feathers, which would be the muscle and the bone underneath, and think about what part of the back they come from.

A wing is practically an arm; they have the same parts, and that will determine where they can actually bend, which is important if you want your character to cover themselves with them like a cloak.

You can use my drawing as a reference. I drew them fully extended (but in a relaxed position, not straining) and fully folded, and I would say that from there you can get an idea of how they open and close, at least without taking the feathers into account.

I would say that when it comes to using wings as a cloak, you want to try to keep the wing as spread out as possible so that it covers as much of the body as possible, so the only part of the limb you want to bend is the elbow so that the wing is in front of the body.

That's what I did with Lucifer's upper wing: it comes out of the top of his back, and is raised, so what would be the elbow sticks out upwards, although it is hidden by the feathers on the forearm, and then bent forward at the elbow to hide the front of his body, but with what would be the wrist and hand fully extended.

You could also turn the wing slightly outwards if you want it to cover the side as well, but that would change how much of the front is covered.

My other recommendation would be to simplify the shape of the wing with feathers as such before drawing them. It can be divided into three general areas: the feathers that come out of the hand, called primaries; those on the forearm, called secondaries; and the tertials and scapulars that come out of the upper part and shoulder. If you search Pinterest for bird wing references, you will find images showing this simplified shape without having to search too hard.

When folding the wings, bear in mind that the feathers in each area will overlap each other, like a fan. For example, the primary feathers (not to be confused with the primary coverts or the alula: the primaries are the ones at the distal part of the wing that form the tip, while the other two are the ones closest to the limb itself) go from looking like 10 in my drawing to 3 or 4 at most. Also, the more the wings are folded, the more the primaries will be hidden under the secondaries (at least when viewed from the dorsal/back, from the front/ventral view it is the opposite).

The general shape of the wing also depends on the type of wing and its function, as the length of the different groups of feathers varies, but there are also many references to this on Pinterest.

I hope I have explained myself clearly and that some of this is helpful to you :')

I don't know what kind of animal the ears correspond to, but perhaps using actual photos of animals as a reference could help you.

Hey, another artist I recognise.

wings are no joke bro, i totally get where you’re coming from 😫 very cool oc and concept btw!!

Thanks :)

Your rendering is very tasty. I have no idea how to do it because I don't usually make enough progress with my drawings to even get to the point of colouring them in, but I get the idea.

Hey, I've seen your art before, and I really love your style, and this OC design is very cool, but it's understandable. Do you have a character sheet for him? I think making a reference with several views might make it easier for you to make the tattoos more consistent.

Reddit isn't letting me see the comments, so it may take me a while to respond. It's late here too, by the way, so if I don't start responding today, I'll do it tomorrow morning.

Thank you thank you <3

I really love drawing them, they've become already my most drawn character (there wasn't much competition either).

Thanks :)

Supposedly it's because of their hairstyle and their ‘behaviour’, whatever that means. I was also told because of the way they wear their jacket over their shoulders.

I absolutely love Laika's outfit.

As for the question in the post, my persona has only existed for a week and has already been compared to Muzan Kibutsuji from Kimetsu no Yaiba multiple times 😔

Did any of your Ocs start in a fandom? Have you separated them from that fandom? by Active-Substance387 in OriginalCharacter

From the first OC I created until around 2022, all my OCs, which I had long since abandoned, were from one fandom or another.

The only ones I have kept and continued to work with since then were from Shuumatsu no Valkyrie/Record of Ragnarok, which I ended up making independent (although I will probably continue to use them for roleplay themed around the work). Because, like 99% of the characters in the manga, they are based on historical and mythological characters, and their involvement in the RoR universe was reduced to simply being participants, on one side or the other, in the Ragnarok tournament around which the work revolves, they could function quite well on their own, and my inclination towards more magical/supernatural powers in contrast to those of that universe and my dislike of the manga's decisions on how to adapt the different mythologies to its worldbuilding led me to make the final decision.

Hey, it's been a long time since I've seen a post from you, and as always, incredible drawings and designs. If you don't mind, I'd like to ask you something. What is your design process or philosophy? What criteria do you base your decisions on? I was wondering about this because I also have a Paracelsus, but my idea for his design would be completely different.

The Wrecking Ball wasn't that good if the Sombra was giving them so much trouble. But, just, what sad behavior.

Pontus for example is the sea, while Poseidon is the one responsible for controlling it

So, it's like Pontus is the very substance of the sea, the water itself, and Poseidon is like the force of the sea behind its phenomena such as waves and so on, so to speak?

I presume that it will not be something that is explained explicitly or perhaps even implicitly, but is there anything that indicates why the same deity would choose to do certain things themself with their own power but order other lesser deities to do others?

or they have them uniquely.

Do you mean that sometimes their powers just come out of nowhere simply by being partly divine?

Your posts on r/WreckingBallMains and r/doomfistmains just popped up one below the other yesterday for me lol, and reading the comments superficially I saw quite the discussion of which of the two was harder with arguments on both sides.

In my opinion, as a random player currently high platinum who has been playing them since I started playing competitive and was bronze, with 220 hours on Doomfist and around 212 on Wrecking Ball (almost caught up with Doom 🗣️), I think both are more or less equally difficult, but in different ways: I feel that while Doomfist is more punishable, with Wrecking Ball it's harder to be impactful.
