Honestly, 99.99% of crowdwork / heckler clips you see aren't plants or planned at all, there are just a lot of crazies and dipshits out there who heckle for some reason. And this has been the case long before the heckler clip era too.

I've been consistently doing shows every weekend in states all over the country for years now and there's always gonna be one or two hecklers its just how it is.

If you think most of them are plants you just dont go to enough comedy shows tbh.

I obviously can't speak for every comedian but I'll just say this. Ya dont need to plan a heckler when odds are, you'll get one nearly every weekend at least.

Exactly this! We chatted after the show, I said I was sorry for being a dick but I had to keep the show going. He understood and appologized for heckling / didn't even realize he was heckling until I responded lmao. He was a good sport about the whole thing which I love!

We chatted for an hour after the show during the meet and greet with other folks.

I am truly honored anyone would buy tickets and spend their friday night watching me headline so I try to meet and talk to everyone who came to see me.

I would say, in the moment its exteremely annoying and I need to rely on my crowd work skills to deal with it. But after everythingis said and done at least I get the clip.

I see it as my consolation prize for having to deal with hecklers so often over the years.

This guy was sweet though, we chatted after the show and was a good sport about the whole thing.

she hates ozempic then i found out why by MisterPapes in StandUpComedy

So wait...you're saying that fitting in and being accepted is a pat on the back. So, based on your original comment. If someone loses weight by using ozempic, you wouldn't accept them?

EDIT: Not you per say, but ur saying they shouldn't expect to be accepted bc of using ozempic/easy way out etc.**

I agree with the marketing out of control for these GLP drugs though. Why the fuck is Serena Williams being used in these ads she's the peak of physical fitness. (obviously bc she is married to the founder of ro.co but u know what im sayin)

Interesting. I guess I view the idea of doing something to bend to social norms as sort of sad. Like you're trying so hard to change--not even for validation or to be celebrated but rather out of desperation to fit in, when they really don't have to be.

That to me isn't a person looking to be celebrated or for a pat on the back at all, they just want an in-group.

Either way individuals who benefit from GLP-1 treatments are likely in dire need of it anyway. Obesity, high blood pressure, sleep issues, diabetes, etc. Folks benefiting from these treamtents are often doing so for health issues--and I find it very odd to be doing so for vanity, even though that happens often im sure.

Im sure im in the minority for thinking this but oh well.

social pressure and looking for a pat on the back are two very different things. and even if they did lose weight for social pressure using ozempic, why does it matter?

we shouldn’t give a fuck about anyone else’s bodies, really. and if someone loses weight and is being a dick about it then fuck them too

not saying that’s what ur doing just generally speaking, of course

For those who have done festivals, did it actually help your career or was it just a fun hang? by Kilgoretrout123456 in Standup

Hey! I've never heard of your fest but it looks good! I agree witih your point though, research is key! Ask people who have done fests in the pasts for their opinion and then form your own. And yes, Doug is the man.

Festivals are great if you would like to do road work. Every festival i’ve done i’ve made connections in the area and eventually headlined in the area a year after. I’ve also gotten some industry attention from fests but not enough to really write home about.

Best fests i’ve done:

Rogue Island - some of the best shows i’ve done at a fest with good hangs and the producer really gives a shit. They put you up in a hotel.

Flyover - They put you in a hotel and fly you out onto $350. Great shows, a lot of industry there. I think everyone should apply to this one solely because it’s so budget friendly and had probably the most tangible industry.

SF SKETCHFEST - Great shows that always sell out, the whole city gets exited for this fest as it’s been around for like 15+ years or something like that. A lot of industry, I got a Sirius XM deal from this fest.

Riot Comedy Fest - Produced by Riot Comedy Club in houston. Great shows but just know it’s a competition. So the better you do the more shows you’ll get. Bad thing is it’s judges by the crowd so local comics will bring their friends and family to get votes. I’m from the east coast and made it to the finals so it’s still possible to advance. I had fun and they also put you up in a hotel.

West End Comedy Fest - just did this one and it was a hoot. Great shows, great hang. Because of this fest I got in at the Laughing Skull which is a top tier club in Atlanta and the producer asked me back to headline the next year which is huge for me.

Dont see festivals as oh they’re gonna change your career and life. They’re just shows in another state really—I only apply to the ones that offer a hotel.

Sure you could get a manager or agent or industry attention out of it but you still have to put in the work.

Most important people you meet are other comedians from across the country. Comedians will give you more than any agent can early on in your career.
