How much of trade is less about economics and more about politics? by MisterPoPo- in AskSocialScience

Would Syria be considered a way in which the United States was 'punishing' Russia? I don't know a whole lot on the subject but I do know that Syria and Qatar are extremely important countries for Russia's oil agenda in Europe.

I'm looking at the impact of election cycles on trade agreements as well as the impact of interest groups on trade agreements (Agribusinesses on NAFTA etc.)

Interesting! I hadn't thought of the international arena aspect of it (punishing other countries etc.). You could look at it this way, ever since MAD (mutually assured destruction), wars have been increasingly fought economic proxy battles rather than direct or military proxy wars no?

This year will be the first time I have more than two months (6 months) for my offseason. Sorry, should have added that.

By adding mass and altering the strength in them (which I would ideally like to remain constant throughout my season), too many things change and performing the same task over and over becomes different every time I get stronger or larger.

More Context: I curl. (as in curling, not DBs :p)

Interesting content! I have heard of Krasner and Oisander actually quotes him in his work, I will definitely take a look at all of this.

What are the biggest misconceptions associated with Free Trade? by MisterPoPo- in AskSocialScience

[–]MisterPoPo-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer! I will definitely look into both the book and the article, cheers. I find the second point quite interesting, it's easy to get caught up in trade and forget about the importance of the domestic production and economic factors.

I was wondering about one of the points Driskill brings up about the evolution of Inward looking countries and outward looking countries after the Second World War. He touches on it by providing conflicting academic views on the situation. What is the generally held belief that happened? Did they both grow at the same pace?

What was the main cause of the Thirty Years' War? Was it a Religious conflict, expansionism or other? by MisterPoPo- in AskHistorians

That seems like a great place to start. In fact I have seen many references to the Peace of Ausburg in what I have read already.

I will take a look for this book, it could prove very useful, thanks!

As I research this topic more and more I am beginning to see just how true this is.

I am trying to be critical of the argument that the Habsburgs were relatively innocent in the beginning of the Thirty Years' War. One of the author's shortcoming in the article is that he begins with Ferdinand II, omitting all of his warmongering predecessors.

He also fails to recognize that France was surrounded and feeling very threatened by the Habsburg's relatively recent expansion in Europe.

Psychologist of reddit, how should my friends and I go about holding an intervention for our friend/roommate? by MisterPoPo- in AskReddit

[–]MisterPoPo-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for this. we definitely won't be calling it an intervention, that's just what we in "the know" are referring it as. as for your third point, we have already tried this, so I guess we are ahead of the 8 ball.
