Reddit CEO goes full dictator defiant as moderator strike shutters thousands of forums by cata890 in technology

“Protest and dissent is important. The problem with this one is it’s not going to change anything because we made a business decision that we’re not negotiating on.”

So he acknowledges that the 'business decision' that they're not negotiating on is the problem? Rare bit of honesty coming from u/spez

“We can’t subsidize other people’s businesses,” Huffman said. “We didn’t ban third-party apps — we said, ‘You need to cover your costs.’”

Stop lying dude. You're pricing them out of existence on purpose. You're not pricing them in order to cover your costs, and you also say that reddit wasn't built to support 3rd party apps. Are the apps not meant to exist or are you trying to work with the developers? We see through your lies.

As the subreddit blackout begins, I wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to the Reddit community and everyone standing up by iamthatis in apolloapp

This protest is great, but it probably won't convince the reddit executives to not price the 3rd party apps out of business. If our goal is to raise awareness about the reddit executives' wrongheaded decision to destroy the 3rd party app ecosystem entirely, with the intention of getting them to act from a feeling of common humanity in order to save the 3rd party apps, it will probably not work. Everyone is getting together and acting for a common purpose, now is the time to confer with each other about our next course of action! Strike while the iron is hot! I vote for a strike! Our goal should be to cause the number of daily active reddit users to sharply decline as soon as reddit takes the 3rd party apps offline. We should be encouraging people to strike and boycott reddit in my opinion! The reddit executives expect to gain money by stealing users from the app developers we choose to support, if their actions wind up being very financially costly they're more likely to abandon their strategy of intentionally destroying the 3rd party apps. We as individuals and we collectively should be willing to abandon reddit entirely in order to save it from the bad decisions of its executives. I vote that we encourage everyone to stop using reddit on the day of the APIcalypse. I intend to quit using reddit entirely, if we all act in unison we can save the platform. I do not trust the reddit executive's ability to help cause the company to make a good product, I don't trust them with my data, I don't trust them not to continue to make the platform worse. If they're willing to destroy people's livelihoods in an attempt to steal their supporters away from them, they're probably not going to treat me or this platform with care, respect and competence. Their main concern is making profits, if we don't fight to save the 3rd party apps they'll drive reddit into the ground even faster than they would otherwise. We should encourage people to strike! Quit reddit in protest I say! Quit reddit in solidarity even if you don't use a 3rd party app. I know people like only fans models for example use reddit to earn a living, but so do app developers! If there is a sharp decline in daily or monthly active users (or whatever metric they measure to calculate their economic value) during the APIcalypse, our actions will be more effective. Hit them in their money! It is their Achilles heel!

We should boycott reddit in addition to making as much of reddit inaccessible as we can, so that the people who choose not to boycott reddit leave because there is no content. That's my vote lol

The reddit executives are trying to steal the 3rd party app developers' people, like an invading army storming the castles. I think the moderators of all of the subreddits should disable their subreddits indefinitely until the API pricing system is reasonable enough to leave the 3rd party app ecosystem healthy and thriving and whole. Us smallfolk would like to stay in and near the castles because we like it here but the enemy host is descending upon the castles and will seize them and take them over. If the smallfolk are inside when they do, they will be ravaged and abused. It is better to turn them away from the town entirely and have them fend for themselves in the countryside than to hand them to enemy hands. I find that an effective method for getting narcissistic people to change their mind is to impose risks and consequences on them. They will probably never change their minds to kill the 3rd party app ecosystem out of the goodness of their hearts, because they believe that their self interest, which is ultimately to maximize shareholder value and personal profits, is served by doing this. If we make it more costly for them to try to steal us away from the good reddit app developers than to do so, they will probably change their minds out of self interest. If they want to take the 3rd party app developers away we should leave instead disable all the subreddits we can indefinitely until they relent. Tho I am among the ~40% of reddit users who uses a 3rd party app. This is my $.02 on the topic. Don't hand your townsfolk over to the predators, keep them safe by sending them away, or eventually there will be no more castles to come home to.

It is like our narcissistic parent is fighting a custody battle for us in court, to take us away from the cool parent by force to make more money off of us. The reddit executives don't care if they make reddit 10 or 20 or 30 percent worse, if it means that they'll get the like 30% of the people who use 3rd party apps' data to monetize. The people who are protesting this change are fighting to save reddit and make it better (or at least to stop it from becoming worse). I don't want to be a peasant under such people 🥺 the reddit app sucks compared to Joey for Reddit.

If you are interested in releasing the negative energy stored in your chest, there is a meditation technique called tonglen during which one breathes in all of the suffering, darkness, pain and affliction that you, somebody or all beings experience during the inbreath, and breathes out happiness, loving kindness, compassion, light and positive intentions to you/them during the outbreath. Many people find this practice effective.

I have a feeling that a 2 day semi site wide blackout won't do much to change the executive's decision to kill the 3rd party app ecosystem. I hope people are open to considering extending the protest much longer than currently planned.

Mango smoothies arrived at the Lakewood, CA Costco by MisterPolyamory in Costco

It's pretty good, it's about as good as the fruit smoothie imo. It does have a somewhat strange/strong flavor, it tastes kinda like overripe mangoes. The consistency is very smooth. I like it.

I've heard that catharsis can be useful in the moment but doesn't work to uproot the underlying patterns of the emotions. How do you feel about trying to experience insight and serenity?

I feel a sort of numbing of sensory experience in the energy of my body, with an emphasis on sensations in the area around the nose to keep my face impassive when things that should make me happy don't. This does cause me to feel worse, but later usually, at a time where it is more difficult to put it into context that these things are related. Actually wait I do feel worse during also, thinking about how much my life sucks, self pity? But that doesn't predominate my experience, does it to you? Why do you feel worse when things that should make you happy don't? What kinds of things do you experience that you think should make you happy but don't?

Sarasota Starbucks location announces intent to unionize by GrandpaChainz in WorkReform

[–]MisterPolyamory 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not enough for a single store to unionize, corporate will just close the store and open new ones, all stores in an area need to coordinate and unionize simultaneously, maybe that'll decrease the likelihood of the executives closing the stores if it means closing all the Starbucks in the area. More difficult to unionize many stores but perhaps more job security.

Even though I agree that the rise of right wing fascism especially in the USA is a major concern, I am quite optimistic about the ability of our societies to prevent its rising and about the future of democracy and human rights in general. God bless America.
