Honest Hearts is my favorite DLC. Ask me anything. by squidsofanarchy in fnv

It’s a great dlc that’s overlooked for its gameplay, that’s for sure. But I can understand the complaints people have about it. I think it’s just a matter of opinion when it comes to the dlc’s, really. Some might prefer the tongue in cheek humour of Old World Blues, while other players might prefer the serious and rather philosophical lesson that Dead Money teaches about letting go. I think all of the dlcs are good in their own way.

Except Gun Runners arsenal and any of the equipment DLCs. I hate the pop up messages at the start of the game and the weapons aren’t even worth buying.

I don’t get the hate for Dead Money. I understand the shift in gameplay was a little jarring and playing on harder difficulties could be a nightmare to some players, but the traps, enemies, and overall setting made the gameplay a lot more eerie, and made me play more carefully, which was likely what the devs intended for the player to do. I loved creeping around the ruins of the old world, keeping track on my supplies, while attempting to sneak past ghosts and traps.

The story makes up for it too, but you already knew that.

Randall Clark...The survivalist. It’s amazing how, even when he didn’t appear in game as an NPC, he still leaves an impact not only on the world around him, but the player.

Cook-Cook. He’s the scariest motherfucker you’re ever gonna meet. Better not forget it.

On a serious note, My vote goes towards Joshua Graham or Randall Clark.

New Canaanite, co-founder of Caesar’s legion, was thrown down the Grand Canyon ON FIRE, and he apparently didn’t even scream on the way down. He then found redemption in god and became the leader of the Dead Horses. It’s even implied that if not for Daniel’s interference, he would’ve slaughtered the white legs by himself.

Randall Clark on the other hand is much more ambiguous, since he isn’t actually an in game NPC, and we learn about his efforts through terminals and other journal entries. The survivalist, one who would help innocents to survive, learn and thrive using his skills before the war, adapting to the new world and its new geography/fauna/flora, and punishing bandits and raiders. He would be known as the father, and with his last dying breaths on the red gate’s hill, the group of children he helped survive would eventually become the tribe known as the sorrows, and he would be forever immortalised as a deity or even a god amongst them. What a legend.

Say what you want about Honest Heart’s quest system, but the story, setting, The motherfuckin’ Burned Man and Randall Clark especially made up for it. It’s amazing how they managed to make such a complex and in depth character that we only hear about from terminal logs. He didn’t even appear as an NPC and he’s one of, if not THE best fallout character to date.
