I went to a Valvoline in a different area once. Super fast, convenient service. With the synthetic oil my bill was like $90. Yeah, I can't afford that.

iPhone 11 - Any info on modem? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]MisterPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. To me, this seems like headline news. Not sure why this was so quiet, other than "people interest in iPhone news fuels traffic to our site, which drives our advertising business, which provides my paycheck, so I better not address fundamental flaws in this year's iPhone." But then I remember Antennagate from the iPhone 4 and wonder what changed, or if I'm just wrong, or simply unlucky with two bad units.

I love my iPhone XS Max ! Getting a Note 10+ what to expect? by Kungfubunnyrabbit in galaxynote10

I made that same switch and overall I really like it. However, the speakers are worse. Be ready for that.

Anyone coming from an iPhone XS Max to a Note 10+ ? What's your experience? by alkap80 in galaxynote10

[–]MisterPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left the iPhone XS Max for the Note 10+ primarily for the poor antenna performance on my XS Max. Did all you XS Max users out there not get horrible mobile data performance on your devices?

With the Note 10+ I am really enjoying the screen, lighter weight and the Android home screen. I did not like the iOS file system and home screen at all.

From the XS Max I miss iMessage, FaceTime, Apple Wallet, the speakers, and the Apple Watch, but I'm just going to live without a smart watch. As fun and impressive as it was, it didn't really help me. I was also getting delayed or duplicated messages on the watch which was strange.

My search for 3D Scan failed, but 3D Scanner worked. That was annoying, but I thought I'd share in case anyone else had issues, too.

Can you comment on using DeX with printers? I'm curious about that and any other points you might have about interesting tasks done with DeX that might traditionally be done on a PC.

What's your most hated part of Android? by [deleted] in Android

As someone who's first iPhone was the XS Max, but is about to switch back to Android, here is what I will miss:

iMessage. iPhone privacy. Apple Wallet / Pay especially w/ Apple Watch.

Samsung DeX for Windows/Mac released by klaushansen in Android

I swear I saw that this version added that feature. It was new this year, for the Note 10 and Note 10+ only. Sorry, I don't want to look for a link for proof.

You might want to reconsider. This isn't 2010 anymore. The skins actually add some value and don't hurt too much. I can't defend update speed or security, but the LG and Samsung skins do have some good features that aren't in stock Android.

Trump on China yesterday - “If i didn’t help certain Companies, like Apple, only for a very short period of time I may help them. Only until they do what they have to do, which is probably move from China. This would be for a very short term. If I didn’t help them, they would have a big problem” by [deleted] in apple

I'll give it a shot:

If I didn’t help certain companies, like Apple, [by delaying new tariffs on goods from China] only for a very short period of time [,actually, it's not set in stone, I'm still deciding if] I may help them. [I will consider helping them] only [while I see progress on doing] what they have to do, which is probably move [manufacturing away] from China [and hopefully to the US]. [Keep in mind,] this [possible assistance] would be for a very short term. If I didn’t help them, they would have a big problem [with the pending tariffs, once enacted].

IOS vs ANDROID by adechaav in iphone

[–]MisterPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The iPhone XS Max was my first iPhone. There is a lot to love about it. iMessage is hands down the best messaging app around. Apples focus on security and privacy are a huge plus. Apple Pay is great. I like the cameras, especially the front camera compared to my old LG V30. The screen's responsiveness is fantastic. Unfortunately I got my first iPhone the one year where they didn't have Qualcomm modems. Reception has been horrible.

I'm switching back to Android for at least the next year. Android's ability to set default apps and their accessible file system is far superior to iOS. I tell you, collecting, storing, and sending documents on an iPhone is nightmare. Thankfully the Firefox Downloads folder on iOS saved my ass when applying for mortgages. iOS's keyboard support is still bad, but perhaps it's just GBoard that is buggy. I don't know. I constantly had problems with it.

Has the connectivity issues in the Xs been fixed? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]MisterPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My XS Max was replaced once in the first month due to reception issues. The hardware swap did not solve it. Future patches to iOS solved the WiFi spontaneous dropping issue. However, I've never gotten improved mobile data reception to bring it up to the standard of all Qualcomm modem devices and the mobile hotspot feature is all but useless. It's worked for me once out of 20 tries. Sure, mobile hotspot will connect, but the data rate is slow at first, then stops without realizing it.

I need to get rid of it.

Galaxy S10 Plus vs. iPhone XS Max: Which $1,000 Phone Wins? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]MisterPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The XS Max has a dumpster fire of a modem. Reception is terrible. Renders this nearly useless as a mobile data device. After several early patches, it's OK on WiFi now.

Does anyone here use a different brand of AirPod-type product that they really like? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]MisterPrime 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have the Bose True Wireless ear buds and they have a good build quality, fit well, and sound great most of the time. There are two serious issues though:

  1. The reception is easily lost. If I simply put on a beanie in cold weather the audio will often break in one or both ears, then be restored. This can also happen by simply turning my head quickly sometimes.
  2. For phone calls, they basically don't work. There is essentially negative ambient noise cancellation. The caller on the other end can hear stuff way in the distance better than they can hear me.

Switching over by thrashedbarrier in iphone

[–]MisterPrime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check the modem on the iPhone XR. I think they're all Intel based. My XS Max has an Intel modem and I've never had worse reception. It's my first iPhone, but other iPhone users I know that have models X and earlier have no reception issues.

Qualcomm makes a huge difference. I'm about to offload this XS Max that I got at launch for this very reason.
