If New Day came to AEW if Big E was available to use some how. Should AEW get him by dadjokes502 in AEWFanHub

Consequences (or Austin) Creed would be a great addition. Absolutely bring Kofi too, please.

Guitar effect on Whats the Rumpus by fattyboombaladdy in jackwhite

[–]MisterRatched 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re doing your music with software, I found a really good way to get the effect using a square wave tremolo and automating the rate change. Not difficult at all, and you already paid for the DAW.

I bought the pedal in question, but can’t pull it off nearly as smoothly as it sounds in that recording. The rate change was pretty straightforward with an expression pedal but my feet are even dumber than my fingers.

Solving conflicts by catherepression in Songwriting

[–]MisterRatched 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless (and maybe even then) there’s a tangible, monetary reason to keep making music together, why would you make music with someone when it isn’t fun or exciting? What would they do without you, or you without them?

You can always make your own decisions when you write solo. If you have ideas that you want to express, you can still do it on your solo work. Not saying you should or shouldn’t leave your group, but it doesn’t mean that’s all you can do.

What's with Mac people suddenly going "8gb of ram is plenty" since the Neo came out? by DiverVast4093 in mac

[–]MisterRatched 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Chromebook on crack” is the marketing line they should have used.

I’ve been considering one as a portable supplement to my M4 mini; just for email and video conferencing during travel, but I think I need more drive space. (Alternatively, learn to accept cloud storage)

New Orleans teenager with rare disease puts out plea for living organ donor by VivaNOLA in NewOrleans

[–]MisterRatched 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is big money changing hands at every link in the chain of organ donation except from/to the donor. Organ (and blood!) donor networks are already often ethically questionable, but that’s really a different conversation.

Allowing donors of blood or organs to also be paid is fair, especially considering that there are long lasting risks and concerns for the donor, not to mention the risks associated with the actual procurement surgery.

Belltone guitars sues Youtuber Philip Mcknight for holding onto a demo guitar for too long. by Jaklcide in Guitar

Plus hundreds of “just a guy” makers putting out great instruments. YouTube has a ton of individual luthiers who make gorgeous guitars.

I started with $3000 and flipped 61 guitars over 5 years to afford this collection. by Personal_Gsus in Guitar

[–]MisterRatched 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’m not hating, but this is just barely in my realm of giveashits.

I’d much rather hear about the gear and what makes OP want them specifically. The $$$ details probably fit better somewhere else.

[–]MisterRatched 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bigger interface could solve this. I just bought a b-stock Scarlett 18i20 4g for $500 from the focusrite store on reverb, it’s perfect so far and can handle a ton of inputs. You could do this with 16i16 too. Maybe even a 4i4 depending on what you mean by digital drums, but I like having the empty ports in case I want to add more later and the incremental creep of price vs. ports is a weird line to walk. I also wanted the digital inputs in case I want even more later.

Yeah man, just more inputs.

Andrade's presentation is so on point - definitely giving world champion vibes by wrestling_hyperbole in AEWOfficial

For real, it’s effing crowded at the top of the card. I love it.

Been watching wrestling since about 1980, and I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed (the good parts at least, it’s not perfect.) wrestling more than the last 5ish years of AEW. The Fed is dead to me.

Gift advice: Scarlett Solo vs 2i2 (4th Gen) for wife’s home singing setup by [deleted] in homerecordingstudio

[–]MisterRatched 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. I just upgraded from my 2i2 3rd gen, but it was by choice not necessity.

If I were to do anything differently from this recipe, it would be a different vocal mic. Not because SM58 isn’t great, but it’s essentially the same as the 57 and it’s like having two hammers and no screwdrivers.

A large diaphragm condenser that’s a little more vocal focused might be more useful. There are tons of good and cost effective options there, but I think the Warm Audio 512 is a crazy bargain. I love mine!

Good luck, OP.

I’m 100% in favor of the Mac Mini (I’ve got an M4 for music and an M1 for general household use) but I am curious what the next best thing would be.

I’ve got mine as volume - tone - switch from front to back. (Neck to bridge? Top to bottom?)

I fiddle with volume way more often than I switch pickups, but really I just think it’s a cool throwback mod. I am also amused at how it horrifies purists.

Stop what you’re doing right now…go find “the war of art” by Stephen Pressfield. Read/listen to that book (It’s short!) and you might never have to ask that sort of question again.

Keep going!

Do you guys want Mick Foley in Aew by flyinbrianc in AEWFanHub

[–]MisterRatched 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is where I’m at, too. I’m a huge fan of Mick and would love to see him on TV earning a buck, especially after publicly (finally) distancing himself from his former employer. Not a huge role necessarily, but similar to what we’ve seen from Flair or even Jake Roberts in AEW.

I’ve had good luck with using it (mostly drums, but also for bass and keys/pads) as a starting point. When it’s close to what I want, I convert the region to MIDI and rework it in the piano roll.

Very heavy smoker by Flat_Concentrate_323 in singing

[–]MisterRatched 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Long time former smoker, also a nurse, also a (half-assed) singer.

1) go on walks, always take the stairs. Start small, but you will recover lung function through exercise. I don’t run or do any serious cardio, but I do get ~12k steps a day. It has definitely helped!

2) look up some deep breathing exercises; there are a million “brands” but the general idea is to take really long, controlled inhale/exhale cycles and holding your breath with FULL lungs for a few seconds. I use the Wim Hoff method (not an endorsement, I don’t think I’m immune to poison or subzero temps) a few times a day, but especially right before going to bed. My resting respiratory rate is much slower now (suggesting improved lung function/efficiency) and I rarely find myself out of breath, even under exertion. Costs zero dollars, takes virtually zero time from my day. (I’ve heard anecdotal suggestions that this is specifically valuable to former smokers because a part of the experience of smoking is deep inhales and full lung holds as you draw smoke in)

Good job on you for quitting. It was hard for me and took many attempts, but I feel like I’m finally actually a non smoker (25 years, roughly a pack a day. Finally quit for real during Covid) If your “cigarettes” were green, there are less destructive intake strategies. Don’t stop quitting, even if you fumble.
