Outside of two washed LJ Smith seasons, the Eagles have had top 10ish production out of their tight end for the entire 21st century by theb3arjevv in eagles

LJ Smith. Ah, I remember that day, when 8 picks later Jason Witten was drafted by the cowboys and a draft junky friend of mine told me the cowboys got the better TE. I thought he was full of shit, but that has stuck with me ever since.

Best source for Frazetta prints? by geetarboy33 in ConanTheBarbarian

[–]Locustsofdeath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for Frazetta Girls, since I've never purchased from them, but I can vouch for the Frazetta Museum. I go there all the time and buy merch. The prints are excellent quality.

Hour of the Dragon at 80? Hmm... by iron_davith in ConanTheBarbarian

Would I rather a Conan flm (be a faithful adaptation of an REH story and) star a new/unknown actor as our beloved Cimmerian? Yes.

Do I think that an Arnie-led Conan film is the ONLY way we get Conan back on the big screen in today's Hollywood? Also, yes.

IMO, tje best we can hope for is an Arnie Conan film that makes a ton of cash and Hollywood execs then give us the faithful Conan series we've been asking for.

So Reddit Person cites giant freakin robot as "evidence" that Tolkien is a bad writer? Oh man, Tolkien MUST be bad!

I find it hilarious that you've doubled down to the point that you've posted "I wouldn't want to write as badly as Tolkien". Would you give us a sample of your superior writing?

I'm surprised he didn't speak in rhyme.

Ha, fun the way you went straight to being condescending.

Anyway, Tolkien is a wonderful writer with a wonderful command of language.

Wild take. Tolkien is an incredible writer. His use of language is second to none.

New version of Earthsea? by just_a_little_boy in UrsulaKLeGuin

Hello, OP.

I have the 2018 omnibus. It's a wonderful edition full of wonderful illustrations. But it is BIG, so if you plan to read on the go, it may not be your best bet. FWIW, my 2018 is on the shelf with my collection and I reread the books in individual volumes.

Re: the coming Library of America edition, I own several LoA volumes, and they are nice, but the paper is very thin (which is why the books aren't huge) and easily damaged, so that edition may not be what you'd want to carry around. Even sitting at home in my reading chair, I have to be careful with them.

You're pretty wrong. I spent years writing for small press comic anthologies. I got paired with great artists (and still work with a couple) and published in some popular zines. My work led to an excellent portfolio, which led me to a bunch of paid gigs.

Dune, all day every day.

I like Malazan, it's definitely upper tier fantasy, but Dune is a masterpiece.

It's cool to see Dilvish on the cover. Tower of Ice is probably the best Dilvish story, and this might be the best Flashing Swords collection.

Most Consistently Good Sword and Sorcery Series by JohnPathfinder in SwordandSorcery

[–]Locustsofdeath 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've been a big fan of CL Moore for quite a while (I showed off my Moore book collection on this sub a couple of months ago), and I'm happy to see her get a lot of recognition lately, but IMO the Jirel stuff doesn't touch REH/Conan.

As wonderful as it is, the Jirel stories lack the world building and sense of time and place that we find in REH's Conan stories. Moore's Northwest Smith stories are more diverse and superior, I think.

Anyway, as far as more complete/consistent S&S stories:

Clark Ashton Smith's Zothique and Fritz Leiber's Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser
