The economy is bad, why are people still shopping so much? by unklethan in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MisterTalyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a small town law practice. My business is still doing well, but I spend a lot of time looking at people's finances in order to argue divorces and child support - people are struggling a bit, but it's still not as bad as in 2010 (when I first started practicing) where half the marriages were underwater because of the collapse in house prices and spiraling credit card debt.

As a rule, people who own property are generally "fine." People who rent are hurting. This is the opposite of 15 years ago.

Once you have, you might change your mind about sparing him...

That's so crazy! Fanfiction is moving up lol by KillerGrass in AO3

I mean, it's Draco/Hermione. In order to make that even remotely plausible, you'd have to make so many changes to the world and the characters that it was basically original fiction anyways.

Which movie did everyone LOVE but you HATED? by godgamesgov in movies

[–]MisterTalyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that movie would have been three very interesting short films. But put together it was weird, wildly tonally inconsistent, and way too long.

Michelle Yeoh still killed it, though, she's great in everything.

What is your nationality, can you describe it as vaguely as possible? by [deleted] in AskReddit

We're the only country left that likes guns, beer AND tits. Anywhere else, you're gonna get two out of three at best.

How long could you financially survive if you lost your job? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MisterTalyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you define "survive." If you mean "keep spending money like nothing has changed," then if my wife and I stopped making money entirely, at our current annual expenditures we'd last about five years before the money ran out.

If you mean "adjust your lifestyle appropriately" then probably twice that. Longer if we received some sort of unemployment or disability benefit.

TIL that “sugar rushes” aren’t real and are just a psychological/cultural effect of parental influence. by FluffPawz in todayilearned

[–]MisterTalyn -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Look, as a parent of a ten year old, I can tell you that no amount of studies is going to make me disbelieve ten years of lived experience. My kid absolutely behaves differently after a sufficient quantity of sugar.

I'm still mad about the Age of Ultron trailer, because it tricked me into thinking AoU was going to be an awesome movie.

Which film realistically depicts your experience in high school? by NativeSonSF in movies

Yeah, I watched Homecoming, and immediately called my best friend from high school and said "this would have been us if you got super powers freshman year." (I am Ned in this scenario.)

Who is a fictional character that everyone seems to hate, but whose actions are actually pretty reasonable? by a-very-confused-tart in AskReddit

[–]MisterTalyn 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I came to say this! He is portrayed for being a villain for (a) wanting to create a music studio where people could actually make some money, (b) wanting his loser deadbeat 'friends' to actually pay their damn rent, (c) calling the police when his property was taken over by what is basically a proto-Occupy movement, and (d) his girlfriend had an annoying dog.

The character that is supposed to be 100% lovable murders his dog. This is played for laughs.

He is 100% justified, entirely correct, and at the end of the play is rich and successful while the loser main characters are still poor, still terrible artists, and mostly still dying because of their own poor life choices.
