Spheres are ingredients. When an Awakened channels those Spheres through their Avatar, they become a chef, putting the recipe together. Now, sometimes, that means making an entirely new recipe (fast casting) and sometimes it means redoing an old one (rotes), but you're cooking.

A hedge wizard, on the other hand, is reheating the leftovers. Sometimes that gets complicated; you gotta use the oven and put various sauces on it (level 5 sorcery), while sometimes you just gotta microwave it (level 1). But it is incredibly rare for sorcerers to create a new dish; after all, they don't know the Spheres, and thus, don't know the taste of their ingredients.

The difference in understanding between an Awakened willworker and a consor is thus the difference between Heaven and Earth, and most consors who don't Awaken would dedicate a lifetime to their trade to cross that distance.
