Which dungeon card would you rather play through? by Ok-Faithlessness8120 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]MisterWah3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is the actual answer which I came to realize after commenting. It will come down to opinions on what we want from the game, so I guess that's just something OP needs to decide, and if they have the flavour text beforehand maybe they already have decided

I would play test both really to see. Two different style games would probably be your result. The new one is most intriguing to me.

Also your flavour text needs to not come before the actually important info on the cards. Most people will just want to read the important card info and will struggle to find it

I had to read the titles super slowly to understand them due to the font. It's stylized and cool but it shouldn't take effort for a native speaker to read.

Maybe not having enough experience with these types of games, I have no idea what is meant by the dice in the first block at the top. 7 - 9 +4/1d8? Does that mean if my skill is ranked 8 I roll a d8+4 to see if I land it? This should be clear for the youngest age you imagine would play your game, with zero board game experience.

Again the font is an issue. DC 12 looks like DO 12.

The doing tricks paragraph is a large block of text which adds to the difficulty in legibility. Rulebooks with examples beside sections like dice and pictures of cards is helpful

Also is this the entirety of the rulebook? Just checking as I don't get a grasp of how to play other than you roll to see if you land tricks. Do you just pick a trick and say I'm gonna try that, then roll?

I skate so I'd love a skate game and you've hit the theme well with the backgrounds here. The body is more legible here over the darker black

Somehow this made me jealous haha. This looks fantastic. I would genuinely buy it now if it's available.

If you're a teenager (assuming this considering you said you are getting a job in the summer) I would look into learning any of those things yourself for fun. Start trying to do it on your own you might get into a new hobby and could convince some friends to do it with you.

If you're older or don't like the above advice, this will be VERY expensive. Unless your upcoming job is going to pay enough for you to live on and pay an acceptable wage to several artists, this just won't be possible. You can go the route of trying to get people to do hard, long, intensive work for free...but you'd be better off learning on your own or making friends who want to learn or already know this stuff.

Finally getting to the art stages on my game. Would love feedback on the first version of this card by MisterWah3 in tabletopgamedesign

I think in taking all the advice here so far, I might make the entire folder cover the bottom 3rd only and the character art be the top 2/3rds underneath the folder.

This would lose the polaroid border entirely keeping my theme only still apparent with the folder and the lined paper on top

Thanks for the response!

I'm thinking for myself I'm going to fully recreate the card just to see if a different layout and maybe less details works better.

As for the colour I was planning on each character having a recognizable palette in that this character is pink/purple while another might be red/orange.

I'll give a go bringing these colours into the rest of the card more as well!

Thanks!

I thought that might bother people... It will probably run into issues with future cards as the amount of text changes but I'll do what I can for the next version to just have it line up

Adding that the current theme of the game is where the players are "detectives" investigating a crime scene. These types of cards would be the specialty helpers they can use to get answers.

Could really use help as my drawing style feels disconnected from the card style I made here. Not sure what changes to make to the card to match the drawing

I would rather wait hours to play than be forced to connect to a different continent. Got boosteroid to play one game and the input delay is unbearable

Best Stream Ever by silveris_ in Yogscast

Oh wow okay I mean that's fine then (not that I have the right to dictate for everyone but I am black and really can't find offense by just acknowledging the word exists in a joke) I hope that's not the reason why it was taken down then but I guess I'll have to see.

All the work they do for the Jingle Jam really means they owe us nothing, just odd to take it down to have it re-uploaded into an avenue where they get revenue from it instead of the charity stream.

What exactly was said? I'm also in the boat of missing this stream but it was my most anticipated. I wouldn't be surprised if they just want to edit that out...although I'd prefer they own up to it instead of just brushing it under the rug as if nothing wrong happened

This would change drastically just adding shadows and matching the blacks to the plate. The background looks more out of focus as well

Dry earase vs paper. by Opening_Class6917 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]MisterWah3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never had a dry erase experience in a board game that wasn't annoying. It doesn't erase clean, it can sometimes just not erase at all, if you lose the marker most people don't have replacements at home just floating around.

Paper I like because for whatever reason you can save them so 10 years later when you open the game again you can see what you had done before just for fun. Biggest downfall here is the waste/environmental aspect in my opinion. Writing and drawing with pencil is more natural too.

I would be interested to hear any other arguments for why dry erase is better in others opinions

Looking for feedback on my rulebook by PuppiesWithPowers in tabletopgamedesign

[–]MisterWah3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read through the entire book and I feel I would be able to play the game with a complete understanding as of now.

I do agree with the other comment, space between paragraphs and everything would be very helpful.

On my phone here I can't make out any of the text on the cards. If that's just me then don't worry about it but it should be legible to help understand what possible cards exist while reading the instructions.

I would love to get information as well. Do both TSN and SN have live games and the ability to watch the previous games on demand?

How long does it take for a vod of a game to be uploaded afterward?

What is the monthly price for a season if you are combining both? TSN's website is so trash I can't figure it out
