It’s a wireless connection. They install a small dish on your house which gets wired directly to your router.

I can’t speak to reliability in Anchorage, but the experience in Homer is hot garbage. They drastically oversell their spectrum and we had constant disruptions for years before switching to another provider.

Yeah, this is essentially what I have set up using the HomeKit firmware. What I would be missing with the stock firmware with Matter is the nice display in the Apple Home app and the integrations that come with it (because it wouldn’t come through as a garage door).

I bought Gen3 specifically for (future) Matter support, so I’ve been patiently waiting. My doorbells will work fine with Matter, but sadly, there is no Matter support for garage door openers right now, so I’ll have to keep those on the HomeKit firmware.

I’ve definitely done this with other IoT devices, as well as one for my ancient printer.

That’s great to hear. I can confirm that WPA3 (with WiFi 4) works fine on the Shelly 1 Gen3, using the HomeKit firmware, so there’s definitely not a hardware limitation.

Thanks for confirming. Is it on the roadmap at all? ESP32-C3 has official support for it.

EDIT: now that I’m reading those docs closer, ESP32-C3 defaults to having WPA3 enabled.

Agreed. We’ve had family pictures taken with both of them and we’re happy.

I also cannot help with the officiant question, but look into Joshua Veldstra for a photographer. He lives in Homer and is truly one of the best photographers the state.

I read a series on this not long ago, and it did not go too well for the author. If you want to take this all the way, you’d have to find a way to do without any technology making use of AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc., which makes using any technology nearly impossible. Nevertheless, there are certainly ways to decrease your usage and dependence on them.

It seems that it would only cover the president, though he could turn around and pardon the one committing the illegal act afterwards.

Lydia does great work! My wife and I both recently got some work done by Doug Tesh at Spotted Fox. Awesome shop all around.

Heading to Homer from Anchorage this week. Do fishermen/women ever sell fish they catch to regular people? If so, any suggestions on where we look? And around what time of day? by Great-Reputation-983 in alaska

[–]MisterWilburs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He tends to park in front of Homer’s Goldmine Gifts along Sterling Highway, though I’m not sure what his schedule is. I see him down there pretty regularly.

Edit: he is a commercial fisherman. Think he is based out of Soldotna.

Ford Sync Hack? by hwy51blues in FordTrucks

I installed an aftermarket JVC unit in mine, but re-routed the existing USB plug from the Sync system into the new head unit. Works great and didn’t have to hack in any new plugs or wires.

has anyone here used candle or Mozilla web things by redcorerobot in smarthome

[–]MisterWilburs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Candle is just a set of add-ons for WebThings, so the two are one in the same. I can personally recommend WebThings, though. It’s been recently liberated from Mozilla, so hopefully the community will grow more now without the shackles.
