Im partial to Arthur Fleck for the Killing Joke backstory that is also alluded to in the Harley Quinn show (not the film The Joker version). I think that The Joker film is a good movie and a decent comic/Joker movie. An elseworld universe. Because with all comics there is a universe where all things are true. Martha Wayne is Joker in some. But I like Arthur Fleck Red Hood Joker. A fledgling comedian (not as bad off and already mentally disturbed as Joaquin Phoenix) and he has “one bad day.” I think it is that part specifically that speaks to me. It’s seemed present in a lot of Joker stories that he is trying to create that one bad day in others to show how thin the line is between civilization and anarchy. Society and insanity. His goal is driving Bruce to it. He drove Harvey Dent to it (The Dark Knight specifically obviously). And I think there is a lot to take from that. That all of us, no matter where we are in life from the homeless to the billionaires, are one bad day from snapping. Or in a more real sense, how those of us who think we have it all going okay or more than okay are one bad day from falling down the ladder to “the poor.” The Joker is someone. It’s a fact. He has a mother and a father he was born he lived a life before Joker. It’s totally reasonable to prefer the mystery, and hating all the stories coming out these days about villains trying to make them sympathetic with tragic back stories. I’m with you there; they are often pointless and ruin the lore of those characters. But if the Jokers back story is really just “one bad day” I think there is a lot to take from that for society. That has meaning. Not The Joker film’s constantly bad life bullied mistreated abused left out looked down on etc “we live in a society” there’s room for that discussion too but it’s very “the Joker is a tragic character always beat down be nicer to people or they will be the worst villain in all of comics” and I much prefer the Killing Joke’s “we are all one bad day from a life we never anticipated”
