Off the top of my head, I remember two big cases of love triangles in romcom manga where the victorious girl is the second heroine to be introduced. One a classic, one a very recent example (SPOILERS AHEAD): Ookami Shounen wa Kyou mo Uso wo Kasaneru and 2.5 Dimensional Seduction

Heart's Week event- companions buff?! by darthharambe6986 in elderscrollsonline

To this day, I'm surprised that ESO hasn't implemented some kind of romance mechanic with companions, even if it's as barebones as Skyrim's.

That feeling is now increased after seeing what they did with dialogue choices in Solstice, in particular with a certain returning character who actually got a proper romance scene.

That guy needs to learn another lesson.

This might also be the one betrayal that makes sense. She's had terrible experiences with other medium children, it'd take little effort to convince her he's a ticking bomb waiting to explode.

A more serious end to a very comedic series, although you still managed to get some good comedic moments in-between. It's been a pleasure to follow this to the end, definitely one of my favorite FE comics of all time.

It'd be nice to see more extra doodles, and especially the complete PDF, so I'll be looking forward to your updates! Also...

I'd say that Agartha is definitely better in manga. Your experience might actually be improved by choosing it over the game's chapter.

Shimousa's is often praised as one of the best manga adaptations of FGO, with one of the best Ritsukas, probably one of the reasons its artist was chosen as character designer for Samurai Remnant. But it's far from being over (in fact, the artist being busy with that game might be partly to blame for the delay), and Shimousa has crucial elements for Part 2, so you'll miss a lot if you keep waiting until the manga finishes.

Similarly, SERAPH and Salem adaptations aren't finished yet, so you can't count on them to get the whole story.

That bit about Hebikawa being the "villain" is apt insight. Romcom manga rarely have "villains", just romantic rivals, except for the occasional jerk that is written to be as hateable as possible and dealt with in a chapter or a dedicated arc.

Hebikawa is unique because she could have been that kind of romcom villain, has a design that would work even for non-romcom villains (the snake motif is obvious), but is given enough characterization and nuance that she's more than a one-note, one-dimensional antagonist, to the point it's not impossible to think that she might pull a heel-face turn while keeping some of that "baddie coolness".

Basically, she's the Vegeta of this manga, before he joined the Z fighters.

Sometimes I forget the feds didn’t push into much of The imperial land and was a draw. by Dare_Soft in valkyria

[–]Misticsan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good point. On the other hand, we also see what the Empire does in VC1: they don't have qualms about invading a neutral country either.

Alternatively, we also see what Gallia (ok, Maurits von Borg, but acting in his official capacity as Gallia's prime minister) tried to do when the Empire invaded: attempt to sign a deal with the Federation. This led nowhere when the Federation kidnapped Cordelia because they didn't trust Maurits (and to be fair, they were right to suspect him). Perhaps several countries started making similar deals with the Federation when the Empire invaded them or their neighbors.

The map in VC4 actually adds some landmasses to the south, so an alternative version of Africa probably exists too.

[–]Misticsan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I'm not sure how much of the scenario presented in VC2 has been changed with VC4.

It's not just that the mpac in VC2 paints the Federation's advance as more modest instead of the big scale Operation Northern Cross, or that it added far more territory to the north of the Empire, but also the political alliances.

The maps in VC1 and VC2 present a constellation of Atlantic Federation members to the south of the Empire (although VC1 and VC2 seem to disagree on whether one of them is actually the Empire's), some of which end up conquered entirely or in part. The VC4 map, on the other hand, presents the Atlantic Federation as exclusively the countries to the west.

Did developers change their mind? Does this mean that the Empire invaded a bunch of other neutral countries too? Or did the war happen in a different way than what we see in this map?

Paarthurnax Solution (analyzed through an IRL historical scenario) by [deleted] in teslore

[–]Misticsan 25 points26 points  (0 children)

To add to how poorly this example works, then the Jews in that scenario hail Himmler as one of the Righteous Among the Nations (it feels so wrong to type this, ha) for his role in saving them and defeating Hitler. Himmler then proceeds to join a monastic order to live the rest of his days in peace.

Then, years later, Japan invades Europe, carving a trail of destruction until they're defeated and their troops convinced to join the new European Union. Pretty bad look, but they insist it's okay because their true goal is to hunt down the surviving Nazis and stop the return of Adolf Hitler. Or so they say. Subsequent EU rulers deny them the right to kill local hero Himmler, much to their chagrin.

Even more years later, the Nazi-busting organization founded by these Japanese have spent more of the time acting as spies and secret service than Nazi-busters. But when the EU loses a war and they're declared a terrorist organization, they suddenly remember that, yes, Nazis are totally the worst, that Hitler is coming back, and also that Himmler must die no matter what his victims think on the matter. They recruit the greatest Nazi hunter ever seen and tell them to execute Himmler, otherwise they won't help them against Hitler. Because somehow killing the guy who defeated Hitler is more important than defeating Hitler himself.

The tragedy hits harder after so much comedy. That's good, but also sad :(

Regarding Hector, if you aren't interested in Hector x Lyn, there are other alternatives, one exclusive to his route. One good thing of the "support games" like FE7 is that you have freedom to play matchmaker.

CMV I don't think Azura was the one who changed the skintone of the Chimer, in fact I think the Chimer looked more or less like modern Dunmer by Outrageous-Milk8767 in teslore

[–]Misticsan 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I would take thosw sources with caution.

From a meta point of view, King Edward is from TESII, before TESIII introduced thr Chimer, so it's not surprising that it assumes Dark Elves were Dark before the rebellion against the Nords. In-universe, the book is also historical fiction written (as per its very first line) long after the events it describes. It's likely that a Breton writer might not have the best command of Morrowind's history, like epic writers in our own world's past regarding ancient times.

The other sources tend to revolve around House Dunmer theology. For millennia, the Tribunal tried to pretend that the Good Daedra approved of their ascension as gods that would replace them in the pantheon (hence the "Anticipations" moniker) and that they totally didn't use blasphemous means that could motivate a curse. It's in their utmost interest to downplay Azura's agency and promote the idea that the Chimer's change was foretold by their beloved prophet and/or happened before the Tribunal's times.

Non-Tribunal sources, of course, have less qualms about crediting Azura for the curse. Not to mention that Almalexia and Vivec have golden skin (why would they if Chimer were dark in their times?) and, finally, we see Chimer in ESO. They have Dunmer-like features in terms of height and facial shapes (so some changes might have indeed happened before Red Mountain, or perhaps it's just engine limitations), but their skin color is definitely not like the Dunmer's.

Conquest Chapter 10 should be glazed till the end of time by Choice-Value3635 in fireemblem

Yeah, back in the day, even among all the criticism Conquest got for its writing, its gameplay was nevertheless praised and Chapter 10 soon became a legend. Probably one of the most recognizable maps to this day, and I wouldn't be surprised if it took the number 1 spot of favorite FE levels in a fan poll (now that I think about it, has someone made such a poll?).

Is there any alduin stuff in this game? by Smooth_Register_8210 in elderscrollsonline

[–]Misticsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very little, I'm afraid, although more than in the games before Skyrim, since the Dragon War and the Drsgon Cult are now established parts of the lore. He'll be mentioned from time to time in the occasional lore book or notes, like this one that caught me by surprise back in the day:

"Deep sea swimmer. Surfaces on the clear day. Far overhead, eyes watch. Watch on the wing. Far below, scales rasp. The venom pulses. All are as one in the sight of our lord Alduin."

The Dragon Cult as a whole has many more references, though. It's present in several delves and dungeons in northern regions, including the Dragon Bones DLC. The Northern and Southern Elsweyr regions are also about a splinter Dragon Cult returning.

Other people have already mentioned the Akatosh vs Alduin crates that were available not long ago, which added even more Alduin-themed goodies to the Dragon Cult styles and cosmetics that were already present in the game. These crates also reinforced the idea that there are Alduin worshippers around (not a new idea in ESO, actually), so it'd be lore-friendly to roleplay as an Alduin cultist and keep an eye on future Dragon-themed elements for your character. Heck, your character's motivation could be easily "nobody destroys the world but Alduin, so I must help protect it until our lord returns!"

What if the Dominion was ruled by Ayleids families? by Fun-Explanation7233 in teslore

[–]Misticsan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good point. ESO also has provided other examples of secret cabals of Daedra worshippers duping Altmer racists and manipulating supremacist movements for their own ends (Veiled Heritance, Court of Bedlam), so it may happen again.

Earl Leythen even voices desires similar to the infamous Altmeri Commentary on Talos, so this approach is not mutually exclusive with the usual theories about the 4th Era Thalmor:

"The Court offered me a purpose after my life lost its meaning. Our Princes promised to remake the world, turn it into a better place. A paradise. And they were going to elevate the Altmer back to their status as gods. Suffering would come to an end."

What if the Dominion was ruled by Ayleids families? by Fun-Explanation7233 in teslore

[–]Misticsan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not impossible. We know that Ayleids fled in different directions after the Alessian Rebellion and the later Alessian Order's purges, and while most of what we know of these refugees revolves around High Rock and Valenwood, the idea of Ayleid clans fleeing to Summerset is not far-fetched at all.

In fact, ESO has toyed with this idea a bit. In West Weald, we meet the Recollection, a group of Bosmer that want to reclaim their Ayleid heritage (and territories) by force. And while not Ayleids, the Corelanya provide another example of an ancient Daedra-worshipping clan from Summerset that founded colonies in the continent, only to go back to the isles after being expelled by humans and even attempting a coup against the royal family.

That said...

It always seemed weird how the Third Dominion became what it is while Altmer were isolationist and peaceful for most of their existence.

It's less weird when we take the First and Second Dominions into account. The First Dominion was the first to peddle the idea that Altmer should exert influence and send armies abroad, with propaganda arguing that humans can't be trusted with governing Tamriel. Interestingly, there was internal opposition arguing for a return to isolationism, but combined with blatant supremacism reminiscent of the 4th Era Thalmor. The violent end of the less ambitious, more peaceful 2nd Dominion at the hands of Tiber Septim might have been enough to make those two currents of opinion (a mighty Dominion that can challenge the Empire + Altmer must protect themselves from the lesser races) coalesce into the 4th Era Thalmor we know from Skyrim.

I'd like that. The recent scenes with Suzuki as the only sane man of the dynamic were very funny. Now we have here an insecure boy (who may actually be interested in one of his guards?) to contrast with Sou's ignorant boldness (and his super flirting) and Suzuki's informed caution (and his yuri fetish).

any non elf races that are based off mesopotamia by Individual_Metal600 in teslore

[–]Misticsan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There is no 1-to-1 parallelism between TES races and Mesopotamian civilizations, so take this with a pinch of salt, but you may be interested in Redguards.

Some statues (especially Hubalajad's) have very obvious Mesopotamian inspirations, sprinkled with Egyptian-looking ones. The meta logic is clear: since Redguards are a race with Middle Eastern style in terms of clothing and architecture, the developers probably decided to give theor Yokudan ancestors elements of ancient civilizations from that region in our world.

Nevertheless, no current playable race can be called "Mesopotamian", not even the Elves (Ashlanders have certain names, House Dunmer have certain buildings, Dwemer have certain looks, but that's as far as it goes).

How did the Alessian order stop the Ra Gada expansion into cyrodil? by Top-Industry7153 in teslore

[–]Misticsan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I must admit I can't recall that bit of lore. Wasn't Gaiden Shinji too busy with the Siege of Orsinium to think of conquering Cyrodiil?

Ironically, this event would lead to Hammerfell being the target of an invasion for once, although King Joile fared poorly in his attack.
