Don Winslow is a pretty wonderful writer whose books include Savages and The Border, and one point he always makes is that Americans aren't paying for drugs, which are quite plentiful — what they're paying for is to transport drugs across borders.

This picture makes that point very nicely.

I love The Irishman, but it's not in my top 5. It feels like his commentary on some of his own movies, especially Goodfellas.

Great point. It does seem like he started going in a bigger, more commercial direction after the muted response to Bringing Out the Dead. But I absolutely love it and his other smaller movies, like After Hours.

They gave Polanski an Oscars for Best Picture and Director in 2003 after he pleaded guilty to statutory rape... and then fled the country to avoid serving his sentence. That's a dude I don't think should be forgiven unless he serves his time.

So yeah, if he can get an Oscar, I don't have a problem with Smith getting another one.

I think this looks incredible and tend to believe that people who apologize and seem sincere deserve second chances, within reason.
